The third design within Nike SB and Soulland’s ‘FRI.day’ project which captures feelings of freedom, friendship and fun. The Nike SB x Soulland Blazer Mid boasts a distinctly modern aesthetic through the use of premium materials and reworked signature details. The thin uppers take centre stage on the design and are constructed from a light bone coloured faux snakeskin material with a mother of pearl finish. Eggwhite rubber ollie overlays have been added on the outer side of either shoe underneath medium sized synthetic Swoosh ticks on the midfoot. White and grey speckled laces enhance the traditional fastening system and sit upon a cushioned fabric tongue that has a decorative printed text design and an exposed foam border. A deep red leather label with white overlay panels wraps around the top edge and an embossed Nike SB logo design has been printed above ‘Blazer Mid’ lettering for signature branding. Large grey chenille fabric swoosh ticks wrap around the back of either heel on top of a patterned leather insert panel which provides a background for lettering that reads ‘FRI’ on one shoe and ‘day’ on another. Throughout the inside the leather lining will soften over time and bright red insoles feature a custom design of ‘FRI.day’ and ‘soulland’ lettering in white which is reversed across the herringbone tread pattern. The thick rubber outsole has an all over texture and an additional panel wraps around the front of the foot for abrasion resistance.
Inspired by Tokyo’s vibrant sneaker culture which Soulland co-founder Silas Alder experienced through photographs of his favourite pro skateboards as a child, the connection he discovered between skateboarding, style and fashion is expressed through the disruptive design of these Nike SB x Soulland Blazer Mids and the use of clashing materials. Debuted during Soulland’s SS20 catwalk show at Copenhagen Fashion Week, the design blends a fashion driven aesthetic with skate-focused features across a Nike Blazer silhouette that was first released in 1973.
