Late 2018 and early 2019 has seen the release of three hyped collaborative releases. November was full of energy through a ‘Support Your Local’ exclusive drop of the Nike SB x Diamond Dunk Low Pro OG Shoe, designed in two different colourways that included pops of Tiffany blue and peel-away wrap around swoosh ticks. Following this, the Nike SB x Concepts ‘Purple Lobster’ Dunk paid homage to the 2008 original with a flash of faithful voltage purple, whilst Jeff Staples’ ‘Panda Pigeon’ shoe offered a combination of references from New York and China. January’s Nike SB x NBA collaboration saw footwear styles embody the character of two legendary teams - the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls - through a coat of black paint across the uppers designed to reveal the colourful hidden layer underneath.
Having become a signature style since its inception, Nike SB signing Stefan Janoski in 2009 has lead to the introduction of the prominent Nike SB Stefan Janoski model. Whilst following a distinctive streamlined low-profile silhouette, the shoes are designed specifically for skateboarding with an array of features that promote Janoski’s unique and casual personal style; keep your eyes peeled for a re-mastered model coming soon. Alongside colour and print experiments, wheat boot influenced styling and additional contrasting toe panels keep the range fresh and exciting. For those who favour a more minimalistic aesthetic, the Nike SB Bruin Ultra skate shoe sits alongside Janoski models with considerative branding and exposed foam padding on the tongue.
Elements taken from archival styles mixed with modern technology result in intriguing new designs such as the Nike SB Gato which pays homage to an indoor 2011 football shoe whilst the Nike SB Blazer Low references the brands history within skateboarding through a 1970’s heritage rework design. Complementing skateboarding footwear, Nike SB is also responsible for a selection of apparel that include a combination of sport references that represent both the innovative and historic side of the brand.
