Brixton: One Item Three Ways
This summer sees California based Brixton, who are known for their premium headwear styles and accompanying apparel, look to the rich colours and exotic prints of Morocco in addition to nostalgic 60’s beach culture to create a fresh selection of goods that exude vintage charm. Crafted with a vision of being worn for life, only the best fabrics and finishes run throughout with custom detailing and expressive print designs that capture Brixton’s signature character, whilst also bringing a fresh look that revitalises a selection of the brand’s best loved pieces. As immediate summer go-tos, fabrics are lightweight yet hard wearing which enhances different cuts selected with movement and comfort in mind. The introduction of the Brixton Crossover collection sees classic styling blended with modern utility and promotes sustainable materials such as REPREVE® created from a combination of recycled and natural fibres in reflection of the brands own movement into more eco-conscious production.
Continuing to portray the Brixton way of life, which encourages individual style, adventure, and collaboration we’ve chosen three key pieces from the new SU20 collection and presented them with a selection of mix and match ensembles from like-minded brands that suggest the best investment pieces for the season and how you can get the most out of them.
Brixton Este II T-Shirt
Complementing the sporty look of the Brixton Este II T-Shirt this outfit incorporates the washed white edition of Polar’s 93 Denim Jeans with an essential Kirby Hipbag by Parlez and is topped off with a pair of crisp two tone Nike SB Blazer Mid Shoes to create a retro inspired look.
Stand out from the crowd with a playful Melons: Surfboard Yellow repeat print design, the Patagonia’s Baggies Longs 7” Shorts add a fun touch to any combination and are best kept at centre stage, paired with more subdued neutral tones such as the dark navy selected for the Helas Classic Cap and crisp white leather on the new adidas Coronado Shoes.
A go to combination for relaxed days, the regular fit of the Brixton Este II T-Shirt means you can easily tuck or style it to suit when worn with the Carhartt Cargo Jogger, which offers a blend of comfort and practicality. Completed with a monochrome pair of Vans Rowan Pro Shoes and the Brixton B-Shield III Cap.
Brixton B-Shield Crewneck Sweatshirt
Pigment dyed for a rich colour finish, the French terry fabric selected for the Brixton B-Shield Crewneck Sweatshirt provides plenty of warmth for cooler summer evenings with a classic cut and minimal branding. As a super versatile design, we suggest wearing on top of a graphic tee such as the Nike SB Yoon Pier 7 T-Shirt paired with comfortable Polar Surf Pants.
A stand out style from recent spring/summer arrivals, the by Parra Dogface Swim Shorts combine founder Pieter ‘Parra’ Janssen’s distinctive style with an essential summer silhouette that makes them suitable for wear both in the water, or out with a bright sweatshirt and vintage inspired footwear such as the Nike SB Adversary Shoes.
Enhanced by the colour block design of Kavu’s Rope Sling Bag, Patagonia’s Stand Up Shorts have been designed with a variety of activities in mind and will set you up for whatever summer plans you have in store. For a classic look the Brixton B-Shield Crewneck Sweatshirt is our go-to whilst the New Balance Numeric 306 Jamie Foy Shoes modernise the look with a super clean aesthetic and matching colour tones.
Brixton Cinch X Shorts
Bucket hats have kept their appeal over the last couple of seasons and have returned for SS20 in a selection of fabrics and prints that celebrate the accessories retro look. To show off the Patagonia Wavefarer Bucket Hat at its best we’d suggest keeping other prints to a minimum with the Parlez Ludwig T-Shirt, copper coloured Brixton Cinch X Shorts and refined footwear from adidas.
You can never go wrong with summer stripes and currently there is an abundance on offer. We recommend going straight for the Carhartt Sunder Stripe T-Shirt which offers the best in quality and style all in one with yarn-dyed blue and red stripes that work particularly well with the midnight navy edition of Nike SB’s Blazer Low GT and the Dancer OG Hoodie which features custom artwork selected by founder Hjalte Halberg.
Catering to active days spent exploring the city and coastlines, this outfit sees the Mollusk Body Surf Classic Long Sleeve T-Shirt paired with Brixton’s Cinch X Shorts for a relaxed look with similar tones. The fine wale corduroy chosen for Polar’s Cord Cap adds a touch of 70’s nostalgia, whilst the skate-focused features of the pearl edition of the Rowan Pro Shoes ensure you’ve supported across a variety of terrains.
Founded in 2004 by three friends, the initial idea for Brixton was fuelled by a collective love for one fo the founder’s grandfather's treasures and the punk scene in San Diego during the ‘90s. Named after a song from British punk band The Clash, taken from the iconic 1979 London Calling album, Brixton was launched with a line of vintage headwear styles created with a focus on capturing timeless appeal. Driven by their desire to create clean, yet stylish and characteristic pieces, natural progression led the team into designing ranges of apparel which incorporated influences from their local Californian surf and skate scenes. As the brands popularity has increased, the same eye for quality, detail and punk inspired design has remained in place alongside the introduction of projects such as the ‘Done Proper’ campaign which celebrates individual style, creativity and personalities and ‘Threads’ which was introduced in 2019 through a video series featuring stories from brand ambassadors such as Kenny Anderson, Donta Hill, Nuria Val and Benjamin Booker. Perfectly captured by their own ethos of ‘style inspired by the past, built to live in the present.’, we look to Brixton each season to supply us with an array of premium everyday designs that stand the test of time with their own modern punk charm in an ever-changing world.
