Designed by Eric Koston, the Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 Low Shoes pay homage to Nike’s skateboarding heritage (prior to the SB sub-division), where team riders were given Air Jordan 1’s to skate in. The same colour blocking aesthetic as the original design has been used here, with crisp white leather resting under midnight navy suede overlays which run from the toe cap, through to the eyestays and decorate the heel. The lateral panels are finished with a metallic silver swoosh which is complemented by a signature Air Jordan logo embossed on the heel. Final detailing on the toe vamp celebrates the Jordan 1’s 35th anniversary with an embroidered coral 'Jumpman' logo offering a constant reminder of the shoe’s contribution to both sports. This complimentary upper is brought together on a white midsole.
A further focus on originality has been paid through the Zoom Air sockliner which offers impact protection, whether you’re on the board or on the court, while the iconic padded tongue provides additionally stability with every step. A perforated toe vamp improves breathability throughout the summer months and a multi-directional tread pattern on the navy outsole offers exceptional traction and boardfeel.
Eric Koston took his inspiration for this style from those initial styles given to the first pro team-riders, like Gino Iannucci and Reese Forbes. Having maintained a close-knit relationship with the Nike team prior to his joining in 2007, Koston drew on his memories of being shown these early examples as inspiration for this silhouette - having kept his branding limited to a signature on the inner tongue.
