Vans x Dime: The Wayvee
Vans and Dime’s long time partnership continues with the announcement of an all new skate silhouette - the Wayvee. With Vans’ Canadian head office located just a stone’s throw away from where the original Dime crew commenced their pre-Dimestore Video journey in 2005, there’s no real surprise as to why the Anaheim powerhouse turned to Dime yet again when it came to joining forces on their latest silhouette. Backed by the founding ‘Banana Stomper’ Vans x Dime MTL Slip-On Pro from 2015, 2020’s marshmallow leather Vans x Dime Half Cab Pro LTD and their recent Vans x Dime Skate Mid Skool LTD partnering from April this year, the all new Vans Wayvee combines both ‘90s and early ‘00s skate aesthetics with a keen attention to performative detail in its revolutionary, part suede part translucent TPE mesh construction. Adhering to Dime’s visual style legacy and their luxe-like rehashing of classic skate stylings, this latest release is one that pays tribute to East Coast skate styling, West Coast traditions and all that finds itself nestled between both parties’ contribution to the evolving skate scene.
Arriving in two colourways; egret white and evening blue, the fully vulcanised Vans x Dime Wayvee is ultimately styled with a past-meets-future mindset that’s undoubtedly infused with Dime’s signature Montreal flair. Following in quick succession to Vans’ recently announced Skate Classic’s collection and the timely revival of Vans’ Style 57 sneaker, the Wayvee follows suit with its archival influence and its progressive ode to performance fundamentality. Both silhouettes feature resilient luxe suede uppers with translucent TPE mesh reinforcing both the quarters and the toebox, whilst the DURACAP toe cap provides additional structural support across each forefoot. An interior LuxLiner and PopCush sockliners adhere to Vans’ technically advanced design style, with both profile’s styled with a classic Wafflecup outsole styled with a translucent underfoot tread that gives way to the same printed ‘Dime’ sole seen across all previous collaborations. Monochromatic shades of creamy white complement the egret colourway across the resilient, side wall striped uppers, whilst its evening blue counterpart welcomes an additional pop of colour through the contrasting puffy white laces that secure the ‘Vans’ embroidered tongue across the arch of the foot. Exposed stitching across both pairs pays homage to the design’s rough and ready composure, whilst the padded ankle collars and reinforced heel combine for additional contoured structure. Raised ‘Vans’ branding across the rear of each crisp white and auxetic overlaid midsole is mirrored by Vans’ all new checkerboard flag label, whilst bright yellow ‘Off the Wall Skateboarding’ heel scabs are complemented by embroidered ‘Dime’ detailing across each ankle moustache and by the bright yellow custom insoles that brighten each design.
Backed by a collaborative partnership that links back to their sponsorship hook up for the infamous Glory Contest in 2015, to the 2016 ‘Dime Video’ edit from Dime, Vans and Thrasher Magazine and to the unmistakable remastering of both the Old Skool Pro and Fairlane from the same year, Vans and Dime continue to grow together to combine equal parts nostalgia with equal parts contemporary creativity as they continue to shed a whole new light on the revised requisites of contemporary skate style.
