Soulland Meets Peanuts
Presented as part of Soulland’s “Commuters trilogy vol. 002 – Public Domain” AW20 collection during Copenhagen fashion week in January of this year, a selection of collaborative designs featuring original hand-drawn artwork of the famous Charles M. Schulz cartoon ‘Peanuts’ took the spotlight and added a playful touch across 100% organic cotton t-shirts and hoodies.
Coinciding with 2020 marking the 70th anniversary of the US comic franchise which originally gained popularity as a daily and Sunday special comic strip in newspapers from 1950 to 2000, a series of high scale collaborations this year have been unveiled, including with Soulland, Timex luxury watches, Heinz Ketchup, Levi’s and BAIT for a special ‘Earth Day 2020’ sustainable collection. For anyone who is familiar with the friendly Peanuts gang which includes Charlie Brown and Snoopy as the best known and beloved characters, the comic’s popularity resulted in short stories being seen through more than 2,600 newspapers across 75 countries up until February 12, 2000 which marked the passing of Schulz. This project with Soulland demonstrates the comic’s timelessness whilst perfectly combining quality and playfulness as we head into the winter months. Immediately recognisable and well known for telling the tales of life lessons with humour and child-like grace, a selection of endearing illustrations presented across 100% organic cotton t-shirts and premium raglan sleeve hoodies show characters from the Peanuts gang in a variety of situations that will be familiar to any fan or follower of the comic.
Bringing a touch of fun to the colder months and beyond, you can select your chosen style by reminiscing on your favourite Peanuts character. Whether you’re drawn to the Soulland Meets Peanuts Lucy T-Shirt, Woodstock T-Shirt or star of the show House Hoodie which sees white beagle dog Snoopy relaxing on top of a roof. Front and back screen printed artwork across the capsule captures the light hearted mood of the comic series and features signature sign offs from Charles M. Schulz, followed by stylised ‘Soulland’ lettering as an additional touch. As always, an eye for quality and finish is noticeable in true Soulland style with neat top stitching, smooth fabric finishes and a contemporary finish. Careful to maintain the classic illustrative style of Schulz, the prints have an aged effect with light colour tones and textural backgrounds which add further charm and authenticity.
Following on from the first part of an ongoing ‘Commuters Trilogy’ series which saw Soulland founders Silas Adler and Jacob Jampp Berliner express their thoughts on public transport and the diverse range of travellers the systems brings together across men and womenswear pieces, AW20 not only includes collaborative artwork and a rich variety of prints, textures and fabrics, but also brings attention to Soulland’s commitments to sustainable practices. Honest about the trials and tribulations behind improving their manufacturing techniques and fabric sourcing, Soulland have achieved a milestone as part of their final goal of production being 100% made from certified, recycled, organic or upcycled materials. Proudly stating that the AW20 collection is made from 83% sustainable materials, this signifies an impressive demonstration of grit and determination that is proving to be a great example for the rest of the industry.
