Pop Trading Company x Carhartt: Capsule Collection
Launching on October 26th as part of Pop Trading Company’s winter ‘19 program, a 10-piece capsule range of classic, black apparel and accessories have been designed in collaboration with legendary workwear label Carhartt. Presenting signature touches from both brands, including quality construction and craftsmanship alongside refined details and embroidery, the selection of high grade materials suit the season and result in a confident, timeless look against go-to silhouettes.
Following on from the winter collection Pop Trading Company designed with Minotaur in 2018, this year the range may look low key but is fuelled with history and special touches that enhance essential utilitarian style pieces. As one of Carhartt’s best known and most famous pieces, the Michigan Chore Coat has been reworked in water repellent nylon poplin with a full mesh lining with personalised silver metal hardware. Originally created for workwear, this edition offers a sleeker take on the original silhouette and will pair with just about anything for both casual and smart ensembles. Tapping into the idea of a utilitarian uniform, matching Double Knee Pants have also been introduced with a relaxed straight fit and regular waist. Simple on first appearance, a variety of features bring unique touches to the design including tool pockets and a hammer loop detail, as well as a double layer at the knee as the name suggests. Similarly, the Classic Vest presents a simplistic look across a sleeveless silhouette also made from smooth water resistant nylon poplin, with an additional 3M Thinsulate insulated front for warmth that makes it ideal for layering throughout winter and into spring.
Favoured for its natural strength and warmth, corduroy continues to appear in each seasonal collection from Carhartt as well as minicord being included within Pop Trading Company’s AW19 range. ‘Coventry’ corduroy makes an appearance in the 10-piece capsule across both the Nimbus Pullover and Single Knee Pant. Lined with cotton poplin through the body and nylon within the sleeves, the pullover design of the Nimbus continues to be a go-to for every season and offers full protection with an attached hood and quarter zip front for ventilation. The front kangaroo pouch offers space to carry essentials with zippered entrance points to keep the contents secure. Cut to the same silhouette as the Double Knee Pants, the fine wale corduroy Single Knee Pant also has triple stitched seams with workwear influenced details and subtle embroidery that presents a collaborative Pop Trading Company x Carhartt logo design that is prominent throughout the collection.
On the more casual side of the range the Hoodie uses a heavyweight blend of cotton and polyester with a brushed reverse to offer a high level of comfort against a staple leisurewear design which is enhanced by a bold screen printed design on the reverse that highlights the collaboration. Known for their premium everyday basics, 100% cotton single jersey has been chosen for the Long Sleeve Pocket T-Shirt to capture Carhartt’s ongoing focus on material which evidently coincides with Pop Trading Company’s design principles. A repeat horizontal stripe pattern gives a classic look, and the patch chest pocket sits inline with the print whilst solid black ribbed trims sit closely to the body. Likewise the Short Sleeve Pocket T-Shirt is made from lightweight cotton single jersey and carries similar front and reverse decoration.
Completing the collection, the Shopper Bag is generous in size and has a smooth 100% nylon poplin outer with multiple loops for attaching tags or accessories, making it ideal for use as a weekend travel bag. The super soft Watch Hat takes a classic beanie design and adds a playful tassel for a unique touch. Knitted to a double layer 5 gauge design for warmth, 100% acrylic has been used for an itch-free finish and the combined logo design sits proudly against a white label positioned centrally on the double roll over cuff.
Founded by Peter Kolks and Ric van Rest in 2003, Amsterdam based Pop Trading Company draw inspiration from aspirational brands such as A.P.C. and Norse Projects to create sophisticated menswear inspired skate apparel and accessories. As the first skateboarding brand to show at Paris Fashion Week for AW19, the brand has remained grounded throughout its progression and remains closely related to the cities skate scene and community and regularly teams up with like minded labels such as Ben-G and by Parra to host events such as the B.Y.O.B.S.S (Bring Your Own Beers Skate Sessions) during the summer months. Their selectivity in both production and who they join forces with keeps the bar set high and maintains the brands positioning in a league of its own whilst still being approachable and authentic in its vision.
The 10-piece Pop Trading Company x Carhartt capsule range will be available at Flatspot on Saturday, October 26th at 00:00 (BST).
