Nike SB x Stingwater Dunk Low OG

In keeping with Stingwater’s ‘empty your mind and groe’ mindset and undoubtedly unconventional aesthetic, Korean-American skater Daniel Kim’s NYC based brand joins forces with Nike SB to introduce the post 4/20 ‘Magic Mushroom’ titled Nike SB x Stingwater Dunk Low OG. Inspired by the psychedelic illusionaries enhanced by Amanita muscaria, these striking Dunks throw caution to the wind via their fungal fabled colouring, with the release itself a timely complement to other famed remedial silhouettes such as Todd Bratrud’s ‘Strawberry Cough’ Dunk High and both the classic and Reverse 420 ‘Skunk Dunks’.

A skate and streetwear brand that’s famed for their illustrative Aapi, Aya, Aga and Stargirl plant friends and their quirky mentality, Stingwater’s aesthetic is one that finds itself well poised to suit the growing trend of nonsensical design and expressive artistry. Led by 2016 Quarter Snacks Skater of the Year Daniel Kim, Stingwater pairs skate-centric innovation with a notably untamed sense of streetwise character. Picking up his first board aged 5 after an inspiring trip to New York, Kim made his debut in a number of edits from Scott Sasso’s 10.Deep and featured alongside the East Coast’s Quim Cardona in TransWorld Skateboarding’s ‘Spirit Quest’ edit in 2017. Just a year earlier Stingwater was born, with its evidential ‘water that stings the face’ tagline and its accurate embodiment of the skater’s strange, unique and ultimately original style and personality. 2019 proved another fruitful year for the unrivalled brand, with Kim featuring in the Nike SB x Frog Skateboards edit that accompanied their brushed suede Blazer Mid QS release, with the same year introducing the ‘Came to Paris’ short form that featured a collaboration between Jesse Alba’s Frog, Stingwater, Heineken and the great Hjalte Halberg.

Following on from Nike SB’s recent release with the Abdeldayem brothers’ Carpet Company and StrangeLove Skateboards’ Sean Cliver, the Nike SB x Stingwater Dunk Low OG drop seeks to pair the brand’s tongue-in-cheek aesthetic with Nike’s endless ode to classic courtside performance. All the iconic cupsole traits are retained, such as the pre-built Zoom Air unit, circular tread outsole and the puffy padded tongue, whilst Daniel Kim’s Stingwater brings its own refreshing spritz to the psychedelic profile. Styled with Safari-themed textured leather overlays and block red quarters as a reflection of its folkloric fungi muse, this low profile Dunk features a translucent rubber outsole that seals custom printed ‘plant emoji’ ‘with eyes’ split sole detailing across each foot; a creative reference to the brand’s illustrative characters and fun loving design style. A jewelled side wall Swoosh replaces the usual sewn-on decal, with wilted ‘Stingwater’ exterior-side branding acting as a playful namesake reminder. Rounded and interchangeable laces can be found above the perforated toe box as they secure the zip pouched tongue across the natural arch of the foot, whilst Stingwater’s iconic ‘Aga’ mushroom character is embroidered across the interior with inspiring ‘empty your mind’ inverted detailing. A textured twist on the cushioned ankle collaring is representative of a mushroom’s gill, with the custom ‘please don’t step on me I’m tryin’ to groe’ insoles a testament to the brand’s explorative mindset. Signed off with reversed ‘EKIN’ Nike branding across the embroidered heel moustaches and with a textured ‘Stingwater Shoe - Very Speshal’ tongue tab that’s paired with a remastered Swoosh SB print.

Arriving just a handful of months after February’s ‘PAID 2 SK8’ video that featured the likes of Antonio Durao and Coles Bailey, this exclusive partnering with Nike SB is paired with its own ‘Stingwater Shoe’ edit produced by the Vertgod (Daniel Kim) himself alongside good-friends and fellow riders such as Chris Athans, Bradley Culebro and Matt Martin.

Winners will be picked on Tuesday 18th May 2021 at 16.00PM (BST) and we will aim to confirm both successful and unsuccessful entries within three hours.
