Nike SB x Quartersnacks Dunk Low
Following on from their 2016 Quickstrike Bruin Hyperfeel and 2018 Zoom Blazer Low XT releases with Nike SB, Konstantin Satchek’s Quartersnacks takes influence from their similarly coloured 25¢ Nike SB Dunk Low from 2014 to bring additional character to the iconic monochrome courtside classic. Loyal to their quarter-priced snacks namesake, creative inspiration for this animalistic release also stems from the popular Little Debbie Zebra Cake snack that continues to take the NYC skate scene by storm.

Tapping into the brand’s love for the ‘90s and their bodega themed Snackman legacy, independent skatewear brand Quartersnacks join forces with Nike SB once more to bring a sweet-treat twist to the ever evolving Dunk roster, Nestled alongside Kent Uyehara and FTC’s recent Dunk Low Pro ‘penny bath’ release, and both Piet Parra’s Dunk Low and the rumoured Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High Project Unicorn, 2021 follows in quick succession of 2020’s ‘Year of the Dunk’ accolade as it continues its celebration of skate’s recent appointment at the Tokyo Games. Although not obvious at first, the animal striped Nike SB x Quartersnacks Dunk Low Pro takes its main influence from the light bite snack curated by McKee Foods founders O.D. and Ruth McKee in the ‘60s. Named after one of their grandchildren Debbie, who now serves as Executive Vice President of the McKee Foods franchise, Little Debbie’s reputation for baked goods is one that resonates well with many. A go-to dessert treat for many Americans, skater or not, Little Debbie’s fudge striped Zebra Cakes remain a firm favourite of many thanks to their undoubted ability to evoke a plethora of childhood memories just from a single bite.
Turning to cultural culinary influence for its inspiration, much like the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Street Hawker’ and the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Kebab and Destroy’, Quarternacks’ latest Nike SB Dunk release serves as a sweet treat for all to enjoy. Black and white stripes bring a wild side flair to the hardwood classic as it references the monochromatic stripes of the creme-filled Zebra Cake, with the block tone leather overlays bringing additional depth to the design. A classic cupsole stitch complements the off-white midsole in tribute to the fluffy yellow cake interior, with the performative circular tread underfoot designed to tackle any necessitated setting without compromise. An integrated Zoom Air unit across the sockliner provides exemplary impact absorption from first wear, with the recessed 6 eyelet lacing system securing the ‘Nike SB x Quartersnacks’ tongue in place across the arch of the foot. Replacing the usual padded style seen on most Nike SB Dunks, this snacktime revision opts for the traditional Dunk tongue with its thinner construction and streamlined off-white appeal that offers a unique play on the frosted icing seen across Little Debbie’s cake based creation. Perforations across the toe box merge neatly with the zebra stripe printed underlays, with block tone black Swooshes sweeping across the mid and rear quarters to fuse across the white stitch ‘Nike’ embroidered heel. Each exterior facing lateral quarter is finished with embroidered ‘QS25’ branding with an overtop sewn Swoosh that ties back to founder Satchek’s iconic 25¢ bodega snack legacy.
