Lex Pott for Pop Trading Company
Exploring a product designer’s eye on skateboarding staples, the Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott capsule features a collection of co-designed Pop Trading Company clothing and accessories. Inspired by the Dutch designers passion for raw and unprocessed manufacturing methods and materials, this latest Pop Trading Company collaboration follows on from the Amsterdam based labels recent capsule with artist Gilles de Brock and their skate shoe collection with California’s DC Shoes.
Graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009 and named the No. 1 Design Talent in the Netherlands by Volkskrant in 2015, Lex Pott’s artistic aesthetic focuses on the elemental nature of the materials he uses. With a preference for raw materials such as wood, stone and metal, Potts’ range of creative output extends from fine art into the subject of functional and modern design. A collaboration that debuted at Pop Trading Company’s 2021 B.Y.O.B.S.S. event, this capsule includes a selection of co-designed apparel and accessories, with a custom sticker pack and an assortment of curled skateboarding waxes inspired by Potts’ own curation of curved candles.
Sharing a similar tactile undertone as the brand’s recent collaboration with artist and designer Gilles de Brock - a capsule inspired by de Brocks’ custom ceramic tiles, Pop Trading Company’s passion for artistic innovation extends across similar texture orientated collaborations including their three-part Vans Style 36, Chukka Pro and Agah shoe series with the renowned skateboarding brand from 2018 and their ‘Dragonskin’ Pop Trading Company x Converse CONS Jack Purcell release from 2020.
Styled with embroidered neon detailing, the Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott T-Shirt is crafted from 100% raw cotton with exposed stitch seams. A vibrant shade of yellow contrasts the natural white body, with a large printed ‘POP’ logo on the reverse paying tribute to aesthetic tradition. Similarly styled, the long sleeve tee features a V-insert hemline, cuffed sleeves and embroidered coral pink seams. For colder settings, the Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott Hoodie is detailed with blush pink bartack stitching, embroidered under-arm ventilation eyelets, a triple panel hood and cuffed raglan sleeves. A classic dual entry kangaroo pocket can be found across the waist, with woven ‘Pop Trading Company’ left side detailing mirrored by ‘POP’ rear branding. A celebration of vivid colours and Pott’s passion for accentuating minimalism, the collection also includes two pairs of Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott DRS Denim Pants. Cut to a straight leg and loose fit, and available in shades of both natural white and raw denim, these heavy duty Pop Trading Company jeans feature a button secured fly, a belt loop waist, contrast neon stitching and ‘POP’ branding detailed across the coin stash rivet, the rear leather belt patch and as an additional neon tone flag label sewn above the rear left pocket.
Headwear accessories include co-designed Pop Trading Company caps such as the flat peaked Flexfoam Cap, styled with a six panel construction and available in either raw denim or in a neutral colourway made from 100% greige cotton. Sharing the same colour contrasting aesthetics, the Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott Bell Hat is a ‘90s inspired cap styled with an adjustable toggle-cord fastening, an absorbent inner sweatband and a reinforced wrap around brim. A collection exclusive 12-piece pack of Pop Trading Company x Lex Pott stickers includes a range of vibrant and self-adhesive designs, whilst the capsule collection’s multi-coloured Curled Waxes are inspired by Potts’ renowned twisted candles.
