adidas x Thrasher

A compound of two creative powerhouses, the latest adidas x Thrasher collaboration celebrates all-skate character and revolutionary formation in its most authentic form. Having worked alongside fast-paced Thrasher via their ‘best terrain and even better times’ ‘Far and Away’ series that started in 2016, adidas once again proves its pioneering skate-scene stature by dropping two rehashed signature sneakers into the contemporary mix - the adidas x Thrasher Superstar Adv and the adidas x Thrasher Tyshawn.

Famed for their intense readership and their equally passionate commitment to board form, Thrasher Magazine is dubbed a renowned pillar-figure of the ever-evolving skate scene. Finding its feet in ‘81, around the same time as adidas’ official foray into the realm of skateboarding, Thrasher continues to unite like-minded skaters of all abilities through their worldly insights and their endless ability to deliver exactly what’s required, a trait they share free-willingly with much-loved adidas. Following up on previous skate-centric collaborations with the likes of Vans and counter-culture inspired HUF, Thrasher turns its attention to celebrating its West Coast roots with this San-Fran themed two-piece release. Odes to the legendary ‘49ers helps bring a touch of heritage to the popular Superstar ADV as a way of honouring both its sporting legacy and its sub-cultural ties, whilst adidas team-rider Tyshawn Jones’ iconic high-collared profile receives a scarlet-red reimagining to rival its earlier Fucking Awesome rewrite from May this year.

Paying ‘tribute to the icons of the past’ with premium suede and bold-red logos tapping into the iconic legacy left by the Bay Area 49ers, the creatively redesigned Superstar ADV’s strike the perfect balance between OG court-side charisma and reclaimed skate function. A slimmer version of its 50-year old Superstar sibling and styled with the same reinforced shell-toe capping as its celebrated muse, these low-top sneakers feature butter-smooth suede uppers that fuse neatly with the colour-matched rubber cupsole and accompanying traction-orientated underfoot. Auxetic overlays across the bumper and forefoot adhere to unwanted scuffs and scrapes with little to no trouble, while the puffy nylon laces secure the webbed Thrasher trefoil branded tongue across the natural arch of the foot. An innovative adiprene moulded sockliner keeps things cushioned, with the blacked-out sidewall stripes delivering a playful remastering of the brand’s iconic aesthetic. Custom scarlet-red and metallic-gold insoles feature adidas’ iconic trefoil logo with commemorative Thrasher branding, whilst mirrored and flipped debossed heel tabs seal the design with an energetic sign off that honours both parties' boisterous tendencies.

Celebrating 22 year old Jones’ 2018 ‘Thrasher Skater of The Year’ achievement with a stately silhouette to match, the premium-suede adidas x Thrasher Tyshawn shoes make another comeback for 2020. Recently remastered by Jason Dill and Anthony Van Engelen’s FA, the basketball-inspired profile celebrates its foray into the world of skate through its innovative structuring and its elevated execution. A moulded rubber underlay, adituff toe reinforcement and an adiprene moulded sockliner remain loyal to the triple-striped silhouette, whilst the touches of scarlet-red and metallic-gold across the Thrasher trefoil insoles, webbed tongue and contoured collar matches both the accompanying Superstar ADV but also the collection’s ties to the NFL giants. Perforated side-walls accompany a stamp-style moulded logo across the midfoot for certified collaborative excellency and improved circulatory comfort, whilst the puffy nylon laces secure the over-extended tongue with ease and with active reference to more court-side inspired profiles.

A monumental collaboration between two leading skate-scene figureheads, this twin-piece adidas x Thrasher release celebrates heritage, cultural progression and personal advancement in its rawest form. Odes to both homegrown and awarded talent honours skateboarding’s ever-evolving remit, whilst both parties continue to pioneer the industry with full force.
