Collegiate Orange, Core Black, White

The newest member of the 3ST family looks to 2018’s Thrasher Skater of the Year Tyshawn Jones for inspiration, resulting in distinctive aesthetics across developed silhouettes which include Boost midsoles and material overlays.

Seen here in a distinctive collegiate orange colourway, core black accents highlight branding alongside a white layered outsole design. Smooth nubuck has been used across the uppers with perforated detailing on the toes and crisp top stitching securing an overlaid section that contains the mesh and synthetic tongue panel. Black leather side stripes sit upon textural backgrounds cut from curved side sections and match the shaped leather heel panels. Seen within 3ST.003 models, a tight knit mesh has been used to build the lower half of the tongue piece whilst a satin-finish material completes the top, where visible padding is edged with colour matched leather, attached using an attractive zigzag stitch. Within the shoe, a closer knit mesh fabric lines the edge of the ankle and leads to a lightweight, moulded sockliner.

Separating the 3ST.004 from previous models is the responsive boost midsole, crafted with a 3D foam-like effect at the heel and a translucent textured section - inspired by the Adidas Kegler Super released in 1983 - that wraps around the front of the foot, pouring over onto the tread and mirroring at the side panels. The white tread includes a combination of rubber herringbone and a Geoflex pattern, which works to provide ample grip and boardfeel.

A distinguishing highlight of the latest release is the input of Adidas pro riders who fed back information to the design team on positive improvements that could be made to increase comfort, performance and longevity. Thrasher Magazine’s 2018 Skater of the Year Tyshawn Jones proved to be a particular muse which has lead to the final design being a combination of heritage influences within a pioneering aesthetic that leads the way for the future of skate footwear.

Recognising that the task of sustainability represents ‘a marathon, not a sprint’, adidas continues to adjust its supply management, environmental footprint and community programmes to suit. A founding member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) since 2004, adidas continues to drive the notion of positive change across the sportswear industry. Since 2013, adidas continues to produce more than ‘11 million pairs of shoes’ utilising recycled plastic waste from coastal regions, whilst the use of bio-fabricated materials, sustainable cotton and Dry Dye fabrics take centre stage across all apparel.
