Polar W21: Collection Overview
Winter ‘21 for Malmö-based Polar Skate Co. is one that pairs seasonal intent with an appreciation for their own endless creativity at their core. The brand’s explorative European narrative remains reflected across new season Polar clothing, with our latest seasonal overview highlighting some of our favourite apparel and accessories from the Polar Winter ‘21 drop.
Colder weather fronts and the requisite for heavyweight layers, extended cuts and greater insulation inspire the fundamentals of the Polar Skate Co. W21 release, whilst a continuation of creative influences sees new season custom graphics from much-loved favourite artists such as Ryan Mettz and Jacob Ovgren, as well as brand founder Pontus Alv and the previously introduced Stockholm-based design consultancy Museum Studio. Work from home essentials receive a change in direction to better suit winter settings, with updates to fabrics and tailorings styled with the colder months in mind. Darker colourways of black, grey, khaki and burgundy are available across Polar Big Boy jeans, Polar trousers and the brand’s relaxed surf pants, whilst pops of contemporary colour across new season Polar t-shirts continue to honour the brand’s cross-genre influence without compromising on the collection’s continued skate-centric focus.
Monochrome colourings of the brand’s classic Stroke Logo Tee are a returning favourite for W21, with all new Polar t-shirts including custom illustrative designs such as Ryan Mettz’s screen printed Smoking Lady Fill Logo T-Shirt, his similarly inspired Fruit Logo Tee, Jacob Ovgren’s Liquid Man Tee and brand founder Pontus Alv’s 240gsm Heaven T-Shirt designed with their ‘inspire others to inspire themselves’ ethos in mind. Casual designs such as the jersey woven Stripe Pocket Tees are available in either brown or navy colourings. For those looking for longer layers to better suit the colder weather, the Long Sleeve Polo Shirt offers midweight construction with nostalgic collegiate reference, whilst both the Flannel Shirt and gauze-fabric Waffle Shirt pay homage to traditional workwear trend and tradition.
New Polar sweaters and Polar hoodies arrive for W21 to bring added insulatory coverage to everyday tees and tops, with returning classics such as the 350gsm fleece fabric Stroke Logo Hoodie styled with the brand’s iconic circular stroke logo displayed across the rear. Similar drawstring designs include the raglan sleeved Default Hoodie, available in a triage of shades; black, bordeaux and heather grey, whilst the Patch Hoodie is styled in a looser fitting with dropped shoulders and a heavyweight composition for a greater sense of both indoor and outdoor comfort. Its sibling, the Patch Crewneck Sweatshirt boasts a resilient 560gsm construction and a stone washed finish, whilst two ‘90s inspired designs - the Paul Knit Sweatshirt and Museum Studio’s Earthquake Logo Knit Sweatshirt pair broader jacquard knit tailorings with woolen fabric blends for an eclectic sense of wear.
New outerwear profiles remain true to both skate and street remits, with Polar jackets such as the double ripstop Lightweight Puffer available in either a black or army green colourway, with its 90% RDS certified down filling, its water repellent construction and its moisture permeable design offering a suitable outer layer of protection to suit any challenging climate. Alternatively, the Basic Puffer Jacket arrives as another high functioning silhouette from the brand’s puffer jacket line-up that features a high rise neckline, embroidered chest branding and quilted all-body padding for a comfortable and compactable sense of everyday wear across the winter months.
Contemporary trends witness the return of mid-wale cord constructions for W21 across a number of Polar pants, with the Polar Big Boy Cord Trousers, the semi-baggy ‘93! Cords and the wide legged, retro fitting ‘44 Cord Pants all styled with a noted sense of workwear heritage ingrained into their fabric composition. ‘90s inspired denim wear traditions are apparent across acid-wash inspired silhouettes such as the purple-black Grund Chinos and the 435gsm ‘93! Denim Pants, with comfortable freedom fit profiles such as the returning twill fabric Surf Pants styled with a woven elastic waist and a tapered leg cut for an elevated wear. The Polar Big Boy Jeans remain a favourite year-round staple, with their baggy cut and contrast stitched seams a tribute to the brand’s throwback vibe and appreciation for yesteryear design.
Winter warmers for W21 include new season Polar socks such as the sport banded Big Boy and both the Classic and Long Happy Sad Socks, whilst opposing extremities remained well covered with designs such as the single sized Dry Cotton Beanie and Earthquake Beanie, as well as the water resistant Sherpa Flap Cap and the 8-wale enhanced Cord Speed Cap. Travel accessories such as the water-repellent Hip Bag, its larger Sport Hip Bag variant and the Mini Hip Bag are ideal for everyday use, whilst their lightweight designs make them well suited for upcoming travel ventures across the new year.
