Polar Skate Co. Winter 20: Cosy Lockdown Special
Maintaining a sharp eye on style, quality and creativity regardless of this year’s events, Malmö based Polar Skate Co. has presented us with a new offering of cosy, winter appropriate skate clothing to round up the year. As their final 2020 collection, a blend of knitted textures and subtle colour combinations have been included across the brand’s favourite signature oversized fits which continually provide a base for expressive custom artwork and unique detailing. Keeping you covered from colder temperatures during darker days, this capsule range offers a selection of t-shirts, layerable hoodies and sweatshirts, knitwear, a custom two-piece pyjama set as well as refreshed go-to trousers in heavyweight denim and cotton fabrics. Whilst socialising and activities outside may be limited, these unusual times give us a greater reason to compile a selection of favourite winter pieces that make for the perfect relaxed work, chill and solo skate outfits.
As the year that has put everything on hold, from summer festivals, film releases and travel opportunities to an array of international sporting events such as the much anticipated Tokyo 2020 Olympics which would have seen a number of skaters experience a dynamic urban venue as part of skateboarding’s inclusion within the event for the first time. Polar has kept our energy and optimism high with their digital updates featuring a selection of parts from team riders, collaborative collage graphics and well wishes from their Malmö HQ.
Suggesting ways you can choose your ideal stay-at-home wardrobe this year, we’ve picked our favourite pieces from the Polar Winter ‘20 release which are suitable for mixing and matching to suit your own schedule and style, whether you’re refining your WFH options or are in need of winter updates.
Polar Pyjamas | Polar Knit Sweatshirt | Polar Stripe Socks | Polar Dane Face Mug
A WFH combination for when you want to look fairly professional from the waist up without jeopardizing comfort, the new Polar Pyjama set incorporates a subtle custom woven ‘P’ pattern to give the loose fit sleepwear silhouette a distinctive ‘50s inspired look, complete with customised buttons on the shirt and an elasticated waist on the trousers. Adding a touch of refinement to your everyday whilst still being fairly relaxed, you can make the two-piece work appropriate with the addition of the Polar Knit Sweater which has been customised by stylised ‘Polar’ lettering across the chest, reminiscent of popular varsity college styles from the same era. Taking the comfort level that bit higher, Polar Skate Co.’s own Stripe Socks are an everyday necessity for keeping warm, and the Dane Face Mug will hold any hot brew to keep you going through the working day.
Polar Paul Knit Sweatshirt | Polar Big Boy Jeans
Never ones to follow trends too hard, instead preferring to create their own independent personality, Polar’s use of colour this season may be fairly subtle but brings to life unique detailing and decoration across key pieces that are set apart from other skater owned brands through a definitive focus on quality and finish. Patterned winter jumpers aren’t everyone’s favourite but this style steers away from common season-driven themes in favour of a tonal abstract design that can be easily worn beyond the new year and into the spring months. Dropped shoulders increase comfort when worn with a backpack whilst the acrylic wool blend achieves a level of warmth that isn’t overwhelming, but equally will keep you covered when venturing outside for midday skate sessions before the daylight disappears. Pairing perfectly with a new colour edition of the much-loved Polar Big Boy Jeans which present a noteworthy oversized fit that won’t hold you back when on the move and also encourages more lazing occasions at home, this colour-focused duo is sure to be a go-to for this winter.
Polar ACAB Hoodie | Polar Cord Shirt | Polar Surf Pants | Polar Happy Sad Classic Socks
Taken out of the past for a long-standing place within casual contemporary designs, cotton corduroy still shows no sign of disappearing from everyday wear thanks to the fabric’s natural durability and warmth which makes it ideal for wear during the winter and early spring months. An easily workable base for both casual and more professional outfits, for days that combine working and relaxing at home we’d suggest pairing the dark green Polar Cord Shirt with grey or black Surf Pants for comfort with an additional hoodie on hand when extra warmth is needed. Taking the staple sports and leisurewear style one step further, colourful ACAB themed screen printed artwork created especially for the collection by R.Mettz features on the front and reverse across a selection of hoodie styles and is in tune with the brand’s reputation for celebrating a variety of creatives and artistic team riders situated around the world.
Polar Stripe Fleece Pullover 2.0 Sweatshirt | Polar 93 Cord Trousers | Polar Cord Speed Cap | Polar 93 Socks
Not limited to shirts, corduroy has also been utilised for trousers and accessories to offer ample coverage from the elements without unwanted bulk. With its own definitive texture and long-lasting appeal, fleece enhances the surface design of cord, but depending on the sort of look you want, it is usually best to choose more simplistic prints to pair it with - for example the monochrome double stripe pattern across the Stripe Fleece Pullover 2.0. With a slightly less baggy cut than the Big Boy Jeans and Surf Pants, Polar’s ‘93 Cords are our recommendation for anyone seeking a go-to everyday trouser style that can be worn with just about any top or jacket without too much excess fabric or weight. The clean cut leg hems give the silhouette a crisp finish that works well with both low and high top footwear options and we’d suggest a pair of white ‘93 Socks to pair up on the embroidered custom artwork associated with the design names. Additionally, for extra protection from the elements the Cord Speed Cap will keep you covered and adds a coordinated touch.
Polar ACAB Fill Logo T-Shirt | Polar Cord Shirt | Polar Big Boy Jeans | Polar Double Fold Merino Beanie
Looking ahead to brighter, sunnier times in both weather conditions and looser life restrictions, this combination has a classic look with an underlying spring feel that includes a printed white graphic tee at the base against heavyweight denim jeans, with an option to add more warmth by layering the versatile Cord Shirt on top. With a sharp eye for quality and finish, Polar denim stands the test of time and has been created with skateboarding in mind, so rest assured additional stitching and extra durable construction techniques have been put in place to ensure they last for years to come. Categorized with a small embroidered character within the right waist pocket, all ‘93 Denim styles feature minimal branding whilst the signature circular Polar Skate Co. Stroke Logo emblem can be seen on the Double Fold Merino Beanie, a true essential winter headwear style knitted from premium merino wool which naturally regulates heat by keeping you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s warm.
Whilst we might not currently be able to enjoy life as fully as we would like to, for those of us who do have more time to kill at home or who have had to re-think our working setup, key pieces from the Polar Skate Co. Winter ‘20 collection will allow you to do this in a little extra comfort and style. Whether you’re answering emails, catching up on TV, cooking or planning your daily solo skate session, relaxed styling is key this season, but there is also no harm in a little optimism by thinking ahead with versatility and travel in mind leading up to more liberating months that are on the horizon.
