Nike SB Janoski Remastered
Celebrating the ten year anniversary of the iconic Nike SB Stefan Janoski, the brand has released a remastered collection which has been re-engineered for skating and are ready to go straight out of the box.
The first remastered collection of the year is available in four classic styles, all in fresh White / White - Vast Grey - Gum Yellow colourways. The various silhouettes all have something different to offer; the Janoski Mid provides padded ankle support and the Slip On ensures comfort with a snug sock-like fit. Constructed with luxe suede uppers for a durable finish, Nike SB have removed the toe box perforations, instead adding ventilation to the side panels with a perforated Swoosh logo, and have utilised tonal, double stitching to really strengthen the upper.
The midsole maintains a classic white colour, although the profile of the toe box has been updated to add a gum rubber toe cap to refine both grip and durability in this high-stress area which ensures improved longevity. The remastered styles features updated technical and functional detailing at an exceptional level. This includes the incorporation of a Zoom Air Unit which has been upgraded in thickness to offer more responsive cushioning than before both on or off the board, while the flexible midsole and traditional vulcanised construction provides the best in boardfeel. Further internal updates include the use of auxetic shaping between the midsole and outsole allowing for both contraction or expansion for enhanced boardfeel while also allowing for flicks and tricks to become more consistent. In fact a translucent rubber outsole has been used to give the wearer insight into the shoe’s mechanics.
Stefan Janoski had been a longstanding member of the Nike SB roster by the time that he was given the opportunity to create his signature shoe. Nonetheless he made it count through having almost full creative control and working alongside renowned Nike SB designer James Arizumi to create a style that has stood the test of time within skate footwear. Janoski aimed for his pro shoe to be radically different to Dunks and other tech-heavy shoes that dominated the 2000’s era, favouring a more laid back design (something reflective of his own style of skating) with a vulcanised sole. However as a result of its simplicity it allowed more room for future modifications, some minor such as extending the upper to create a mid-top version while others were more drastic such as the introduction of an exposed Air Max unit.
The Janoski has undoubtedly been one of the most versatile shoes that Nike have created, with the remastered collection continuing with updates on OG colours like the: Nike SB Janoski Remastered Shoes - Black / White - Black - Gum Light Brown and Nike SB Janoski Slip On Remastered Shoes - Black / White - White as well as two multicoloured, suede iterations. Moving into the rest of the year, you can look forward to many more colourways to truly reflect the shoes timelessness.
