adidas & Friends
For SS21 adidas has introduced a collection of new skateboarding-focused shoes and apparel that showcase a selection of their most iconic designs taken to the next level. With reinterpreted track pants, sweatshirts, graphic t-shirt designs and skate shoes, an ability to keep up with ever-changing trends is proven throughout and at the same time incorporates the needs of modern day skateboarders, resulting in a noticeably refined aesthetic that effortlessly combines contemporary styling with premium, practical features.
Making for essential layering pieces and in celebration of the international community that has been created as a result of the thirty-year history behind adidas skateboarding, a new colour variation in the adidas x Blondey Superstar has been unveiled, alongside collaborative Shmoo imagery created by Mark ‘The Gonz’ Gonzales and custom prints from cartoon illustrator Henry Jones as an exchange of skills from skateboarders and artists around the world.
Whether you are facing back to back Zoom sessions as part of your WFH schedule, have found a new binge-worthy box set or are seeking new layers to see you through socially distanced skate sessions, we have compiled a collection of outfits that include a variety of plush fabrics, mix and match accessories and loose silhouettes perfect for those #stayathome days or socially distanced walks.
As the leaders in utilising innovative new fabrics, their own custom cuts and durable skate-focused construction methods, like-minded brands such as Nike SB, Carhartt and Polar Skate Co. have been included alongside adidas to showcase how each label has continued to progress upon its own creative vision for the new year.
Perfect for the days where comfort takes priority, this cosy and super casual combination features the adidas Bouclette Pants at it’s core, which are a modern update on the iconic SST track pants with contrasting three-stripe decoration along either side edge, trefoil embroidery and an elasticated drawcord. For a pop of colour to this casual fit we’ve teamed the adidas sweatpants with the Helas Relief Hoodie in a total blue colourway over the top of the Thrasher Crows T-Shirt. Add a touch of luxe with the snakeskin-embossed leather Converse Louie Lopez Pro Ox and the Flatspot exclusive Severn Rushes Cap in white corduroy.
Combining colour tones for a considered look, we are firmly supporting the ‘from the waist above’ approach for Zoom meetings and quizzes by keeping things casual on the bottom half with a smart sweatshirt or shirt on show. Suiting ‘business casual’ discussions and making a great alternative to a button through shirt, the adidas H Shmoo 1/4 Zip Sweatshirt has a high quality finish and minimal branding. Sitting comfortably underneath, the Yardsale Flannel Shorts have been cut from a wool blend for a leisurely feel that offers a higher level of warmth than your average casual shorts, whilst the Dancer Embroidered Apple Dad Cap acts as the perfect solution to hiding bedheads and dodgy lockdown cuts. Whatever your day has in store, a pair of comfortable socks are of course crucial and for this blue themed combo, the Parlez Block 2 Tone Socks would be our choice with similar tones that continues downwards across the Nike SB Heritage Vulc Shoes.
Showcasing a modern take on a classic sportswear design, the adidas Velour Rugby Shirt has a fresh look with wide decoratives stripes that will take you from casual #stayathome days into the up and coming brighter spring months. Suiting solo skate sessions during the colder months, the traditional utilitarian inspired elements and stitched panelling incorporated within the fleece Carhartt Beaumont Sweatpants offer warmth without unwanted bulk, in addition to an adjustable waist detail and cuffed hems that helps to tuck the fabric out of the way. For further skate-focused comfort, the Last Resort AB VM001 Shoes act as a progression on their initial debut design introduced for the end of 2020 and hold skate-focused features within a two-tone aesthetic, complete with a solid black rubber outsole and subtle tonal branding. Furthering support for smaller scale skate brands as well as another project of Last Resort AB’s founder Pontus Alv, the Polar Double Fold Merino Beanie has been knitted with ‘90s style stripes from 100% merino wool for a temperature regulating finish.
Presenting the famous non-identifiable character created by Mark Gonzales as part of his artistic pursuits, the adidas G Shmoo Long Sleeve T-Shirt is an ideal base layer that you will come back to time and time again whilst the Civilist Tyvek Pusher Bag features a key emblem of the brand’s own against a compact, multifunctional cross-body design, sized to hold all of your essentials. Following a monochromatic look that incorporates water-repellent technical fabrics in the form of the Nike SB March Radness Anorak Jacket alongside the naturally warm cord fabric in the Gramicci Corduroy Gramicci Pants. The iron grey colourway of the Nike SB Blazer Mid Edge Shoes ties the look together whilst adding a throwback nod to skate shoe customisation of the 80’s and 90’s.
Starting from the feet first this time we’ve chosen the adidas Matchbreak Super in collegiate white with pops of green and yellow - a new style from 2020 which takes inspiration from the OG Nizza and 3MC. Collegiate and varsity styles are looking to be a big trend this spring so we’ve started this fit off with the Bronze 56K B Ball Fleece Jacket that proudly communicates a New York City inspired look with bold ‘B’ emblems which mimic elements from collegiate designs. We’ve layered the jacket over the striped Carhartt Scotty Pocket Long Sleeve T-Shirt and finished the fit with the mid stone wash and regular fit of the Stan Ray OG Denim Painter Pants to add a classic touch.
