Vans The Lizzie

A celebration of Lizzie Armanto’s career, life achievements and passion for skating, The Lizzie is the first signature for the team rider and the first signature to be designed by a female skater in 20 years. A revolutionary design that is also assigned to Vans’ VR3 Checkerboard Globe project - an initiative committed to utilising 100% regenerative, recycled or renewably sourced materials by 2030.

Growing up skating Santa Monica spots such as The Cove and Vans’ Orange skatepark alongside her brother at the age of 14, Lizzie Armanto’s storied career is one notably fueled by her colourful character and the well-known narrative of classic sibling rivalry. Inspired by the likes of the late Jeff Grosso and dubbed as Tony Hawk’s protégé thanks to her ride of Hawks’ 360-degree vert Loop in 2018, Armanto’s monumental skate achievements include an excess of over 30 awards including winning gold at the first ever Women’s Skateboard Park X-Games event in 2013, winning 2014’s Van Doren Invitational and appearing as the first woman in a number of years to appear on both the cover of TransWorld Skateboarding Magazine in 2016 and Thrasher in 2017.

A key influence in the progression of women’s skate and evolving skate culture, Armanto appeared alongside female skaters Brighton Zeuner and Mami Tezuka in the 2019 ‘Vanguards’ chapter of Vans’ ‘This Is Off The Wall’ campaign as it explored individuality, creativity and self-expression, whilst Vans and Shari White’s influential all-womens ‘Credits’ film released a year later as a celebration of women’s skate culture. Alongside Vans, Nike SB’s homage to women in skate includes their ‘Gizmo’ edit for Gnarhunters founder Ellisa Steamer, whilst their on-going ‘Not Here By Luck’ series focuses on highlighting some of the most talented female skaters across the international skate scene.

Vans’ first female signature in 20 years, the self-titled Vans The Lizzie is designed with a performance-fit construction moulded directly from 3D scans of the skaters own foot. Following on from its initial marshmallow coloured release, this latest dirt brown and black colourway is styled in a rustic shade subtly inspired by workwear aesthetics. Led by a need for greater boardfeel and a closer connection to her board, this high collar skate shoe features a lowered profile footbed, a leaner outsole and a new vulcanised construction technique with an exposed outsole edge. Uppers are made from a combination of organic cotton, whilst natural rubber, biobased foam and environmentally friendly brown suede sourced from Leather Working Group (LWG) tanneries earn the design’s assignment to Vans’ VR3 Checkerboard Globe project. Styled with a 3D embossed DURACAP toe, a micro-waffle tread and SICKSTICK™ rubber compounding. Finished with custom embroidered tongue tabs, stitch accentuated side wall stripes and with printed ‘Lizzie Armanto’ detailing beneath each black heel flap.
