Polar Skate Co and Converse Skate Los Angeles
Skateboarding giants Polar have partnered up once again with Converse, however this time to introduce the Jack Purcell Pro, which echoes the clean style of the original Jack Purcell silhouette.
The Polar team got together to choose 3 premium suede colour ways that matches their own aesthetic, with the classic white midsole and the original Jack Purcell light blue colour appearing on the outsole.
Pontus Alv gave his insight into one of his favourite silhouettes in order for it to be re-made to meet the demands of skateboarding. This rendition Jack Purcell Pro has been built with a thinner toe cap for better board fell while incorporating a Nike Zoom Air heel unit for impact cushioning.
The Polar X Converse collaborative shoes are co-branded but still kept clean and minimal in true Polar fashion. Flaunting the Happy Sad faces on the rubber heel stamps, with the Polar Fill logo getting debossed onto the heel stripe while the No comply lady is placed on the inside of the winged tongue.
Coming in a combination of three impeccably clean colour ways; black, navy and emerald green as well as an off white that is exclusive to the Polar site, the Polar X Converse Jack Purcell Pro is the perfect skate shoe that can be worn on any occasion and incorporated into almost any outfit due to it’s minimal aesthetic and versatility.
To go alongside the footwear Polar have designed a collection of apparel, which is inspired by the 80’s era of Venice Beach skateboarding. Consisting of a selection of T-shirts, hoodies, shorts and a cap that complements the footwear, while being co-branding to celebrate the legacy of Jack Purcell.
Jack Purcell was a legendary badminton player back in 1935 who was undefeated worldwide - and he was getting increasingly frustrated with the poor standards of badminton footwear that was available at the time, therefore he decided to design his own athletic shoe; creating a shoe using a combination of canvas and rubber while featuring the signature “smile” on the toe cap, which is now an iconic expression of personal style and casual refinement.
The Polar guys took a trip to LA equipped with their custom made kickers and wood boards, they hit the City of Angels hard to really experience their inspiration point for the apparel collection.
A follow on from their debut shoe collaboration film “Manhattan Days” Polar and Converse have made film to go alongside the introduction of the Polar X Converse Jack Purcell Pro, titled “LA Days” with the trailer posted onto the Polar Instagram yesterday (27th July) and everyone was hyped to see the full piece and what it entails; from what the trailer gives away we’ll be seeing Pontus Alv and his men smashing wall rides and tranny no doubt.
