Staying true to their signature ‘90s inspired cuts and incorporation of custom artwork from their favourite creatives, Polar Skate Co. has unveiled their winter ‘19 collection which offers an abundance of everyday styles updated to suit wear during the colder months through the use of hardy, heavyweight fabrics. With classically styled jackets, layerable fleece and printed t-shirts at the core, there’s an underlying air of vintage appeal with collar necklines borrowed from workwear and protective raised collars often seen on outdoor clothing.

Throughout the new season release shades of black, graphite, sport grey and rich navy are met with lighter tones of sky blue, tan, pale khaki, orange and summer green to encourage a sense of freshness in comparison to the often darker tones seen throughout autumn and winter collections. The recognisable circular Stroke logo and Polar text logo has become a prominent graphic of the brand and sits alongside the work of selected artists favoured by founder Pontus Alv which for this season puts the spotlight on experimental abstract artist Tynan Kerr. A strong use of colour and perspective can be seen on the heavyweight Garden Fill Logo Hoodie and reverse of The Artist T-Shirt which both incorporate Kerr’s work. As Malmö based illustrator Jacob Ovgren heads up the art department it’s a given that his work will appear within each release whether this is through light hearted illustrations seen on the Bounce T-Shirt and Dragon’s Nest T-Shirt or playful typography for the Star Socks. Having set the creative tone for Polar through early experimental videos such as ‘The Strongest of The Strange’ Pontus Alv’s celebrated and varying design style is portrayed through the Torso print on both long and short sleeve t-shirts, bold Art Knit Sweater and The Cry T-Shirt which pays homage to California post-punk band The Cry who regularly feature on the soundtrack of Polar’s feature length skate videos.

Highlighting the best picks from the new Polar Skate Co. winter ‘19 collection, we’ve picked out key pieces and combined them with other seasonal essentials from the likes of Carhartt, Patagonia, Stussy and Dickies to suggest go-to everyday combinations. Taking into consideration the cooler weather this season, layering is encouraged alongside mix and match accessories and the best in new skate-focused footwear. Take a look at the selection below.

Polar Cord Zipped JacketBrixton Hilt Embroidered Knit Long Sleeve T-ShirtPolar Cord Surf PantsNew Balance Numeric 288S Shoes

Cut to a wide fit from heavyweight thick tan corduroy the Polar Cord Jacket is a stand out piece from the new season. Classic in its design with a collar neckline and subtle embroidery, a plush sherpa lining runs throughout for additional warmth so lightweight t-shirts are best suited for wear underneath, such as the Brixton Hilt Embroidered Knit Long Sleeve T-Shirt with a plum and cardinal coloured stripe pattern. Naturally warm and durable, the Polar Cord Surf Pants have an elasticated waistband for flexibility whilst the selected cotton cord has a thin 11 waves per inch surface texture that ties in with the jacket. The hem of the trousers work best left straight, although it’s up to you if you style them slightly cropped to show off a sock or your footwear; we suggest the New Balance Numeric 288S with light coloured uppers and green accents.

Since being founded by Pontus Alv in 2011, Polar Skate Co. remain based in Malmö where they draw inspiration from the local skate community, creatives and European neighbours for seasonal collections, collaborations and experimental skate videos. Regardless of being adopted by fashion fans who might not have ever stepped on a skateboard, Polar remains true to its roots as a skate focused brand that supports its multi-talented international team and repeatedly brings something new to the scene, whether this is artwork, old school styling or simply a refreshing attitude that skateboarding need not be solely representative of one thing - inspiration can be found everywhere.

The Polar Holiday 19 collection releases on Friday 15th November at 10am.
