Originally dubbed Whoopass Stew! and masterminded by animator Craig McCracken, the renamed pilot launched in ‘95 with Cartoon Cartoons greenlighting the full Powerpuff Girl series in ‘98. A merger of classic superhero storylines, pop culture artistry and tongue-in-cheek humour, the in-series Powerpuff Girls were ultimately created by the fictional Professor Utonium in an attempt to create the ‘perfect little girl’. A combination of sugar, spice and everything nice amounts to the personalities of each kindergarten-aged crimefighter, whilst the accidental ingredient Chemical X gifted each with a range of superpowers including x-ray vision, energy projection, flight and superhuman senses. A legacy battling villains, monsters and their arch nemesis Mojo Jojo amounts to six seasons and 78 episodes, with the final episode airing on Cartoon Network in 2005.
Bubbles: Sugar. Often known for being the softest and sweetest of the three, the Bubbles Nike SB Dunk Low Pro from the Powerpuff Girls pack is styled with textured leather and synthetic leather uppers inspired by her namesake. Bright yellow details across the interchangeable laces and Swooshes reference her blonde pigtails, with the black midsole and icy blue rubber outsole inspired by her dress. Classic SB Dunk features include a circular underfoot tread, a perforated toe box and Zoom Air inserts, whilst each satin-like tongue is detailed with the series logo. Finished with Nike SB Bubbles tongue labels, custom Mojo Jojo insole artwork and with embroidered eye and smile details stitched across each heel.
Buttercup: Spice. Known for her hotheadedness and action-ready attitude, the Buttercup Nike SB Dunk Low Pro arrives in a signature green colourway with satin-like leather and synthetic leather uppers. Reflective panel trims pay tribute to her unique superpowers, whilst the black Swoosh and interchangeable laces draw inspiration from her cowlick hair. Featuring Zoom Air inserts, an icy green rubber outsole and a woven Powerpuff Girl tongue, this Dunk is finished with woven Nike SB Buttercup tongue labels, custom insole artwork and a referential frown stitched beneath the left eye embroidered across the heel.
Blossom: All Things Nice. Defined as the tactician and self-proclaimed leader, the Blossom Nike SB Dunk Low Pro features a subtle patterned finish to the leather uppers, whilst classic Nike SB Dunk details include a perforated toe and Zoom Air inserts. An icy pink outsole reflects the signature shade of the shoe, with orange highlights referencing Blossom’s waist-length hair. Finished with a satin-like tongue, a woven heart eyestay* (*preschool and adult sizing only), custom Powerpuff Girls insoles and embroidered eye and smile details stitched across each heel.
Arriving in toddler, preschool and adult sizing much like 2020’s Nike SB x Sean Cliver Dunk Low, the Powerpuff Dunks host similarities to other character-themed Dunk releases including the Grateful Dead pack and Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Gundam’.
