Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid

Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid | Flatspot

Whilst Isle Skateboards have remained relatively low key since being founded in 2013 by Nick Jensen, Paul Shier and Chris Aylen, the independent London based skate brand has taken the time to slowly but surely develop its ideas with a close attention to quality. The use of considered artwork by their favourite creatives, a collective of international skaters from the brands own team and the expansion of goods that remain in tune with their vision and style all demonstrates Isle’s vision for their part within the ever-growing industry. Marking a milestone for not just Isle but any independent skate brand, we’re stoked to see a custom Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid created for the new year which incorporates the best of both worlds when it comes to skate performance and culture.

Harnessing the focus on creativity and personality that can be found across a selection of t-shirts and skate decks offered by Isle each season, the Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid uses its premium all black suede uppers as a canvas above a matching matte black vulcanized outsole within a Blazer Mid silhouette. Inspired by the cyanotype photographic printing process and paintings by co-founder Nick Jensen, artist and professional skateboarder, a cut out piece of canvas with raw frayed edging sits on the outer side of the heel and shows expressive blue and white tone artwork with stylised ‘Isle’ lettering that demonstrates the brands renowned aesthetic. Favouring the old school shape of the Blazer Mid, its usual retro influenced aesthetic has been stripped back for an all black design which gives a completely new identity to the model without devaluing its signature details. Crafted with style and skate performance in mind, a full length lace up fastening delivers a long lasting secure fit whilst a cushioned exposed foam tongue with a co-branded woven label wraps over the top edge bearing traditional Swoosh decoration with ‘Isle Skateboards’ added below. Within the shoe, a Zoom Air unit sits within the sockliner for impact support and is enhanced by the hard wearing outsole which has a subtle surface pattern and an OG herringbone tread underfoot.

Represented by the likes of team riders Tom Knox, Mike Arnold and Casper Brooker amongst others, Isle's steady approach to expansion has resulted in a certain level of authenticity and quality being maintained that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Appealing to those who appreciate the attention to thoughtful, engaging artwork whether it’s presented across a skate deck, printed t-shirt or on a traditional canvas, Isle don’t appear to rush what they release which has gained them a solid reputation for stand out skate parts, desirable product and a distinctive place within the British skate scene.
