Nike SB Dunk Low OG Sandy Bodecker

Known for being one of Nike’s rarest releases to date, the 2003 eBay-inspired Nike Dunk serves as the colourful muse for this Nike SB Dunk. A tribute also to the late, great Sandy Bodecker, this 2022 Nike SB Dunk Low arrives with deconstructed patent leather uppers inspired by the original sample’s sawn through legacy. In support of the Dunk’s charitable roots, a portion of the proceeds from the Flatspot Nike SB Dunk Low raffle will be donated to the charity Young Devon

The original release from the early ‘00s saw three pairs enter circulation; one was auctioned off in favour of the Tim Brauch Foundation, one was gifted to Sandy Bodecker and the last was sawn into four parts to preserve its rarity. Designed by John Martin, the 2003 eBay Dunk was in fact styled as a specific tribute to Bodecker with a special insole graphic and a one-of-one outsole marking all styled in his shoe size of 8.5. Joining Nike during the ‘80s, Sandy Bodecker is undoubtedly recognised as the man who put the SB in Nike SB. Most didn’t know a third pair of the SB Charity Dunks existed until 2018 when Sandy Bodecker announced that upon his retirement from Nike in 2008 he was gifted the third and final pair. Arriving as a creative homage to the OG release, 2022’s Nike SB Dunk Low is self-described as a ‘humpty dumpty’ update of 2003’s eBay themed release with peep-through patent leather uppers ultimately inspired by its cut-up predecessor.

Styled in an official colourway synonymous with auction site eBay, this Nike SB Dunk Low OG features multi-coloured patent leather uppers with translucent panels that mimic the original’s sawn-through quarters. Featuring airflow perforations across the toe box and a rubber outsole, with a classic cupsole construction and a circular underfoot tread for maximised grip and traction. A cushioned foam sockliner provides increased support, whilst the custom printed insoles pay tribute to Sandy Bodecker and Nike SB creative James Arizumi’s son Alika. Zoom Air units feature across each heel, whilst the puffy laces are secured with patented eyelets across the OG mesh padded tongue. Finished with embroidered ‘SB #NikeSBForever’ tongue labels and with embroidered ‘SB’ heel branding in honour of Sandy Bodecker.

To commemorate the shoe’s charitable history as well as mastermind Sandy Bodecker, Nike also created 10 limited edition pairs with collectible shoe boxes (designed to be skated), which were auctioned off at the end of 2022. Each Charity Dunk included a tribute pair based on the original eBay Dunk (also known as the SB Charity Dunk), a pair of the 2022 Nike SB Dunks and a commemorative saw as a creative homage to the cut-up original. All proceeds will be donated to The Bodecker Foundation. Launched in 2017 by the legendary VP of Special Projects, the organisation strives to empower creative youth to imagine and achieve their educational and professional dreams. The release is also supported by a ‘Skate ‘Em Out’ pop-up store at the Foundation where individuals are able to purchase the 2022 release for the 2003’s retail price.
