Nike SB Shane Shoes
Having been signed to Nike SB since he was just 13 years old, it’s been a long time coming but Australian native Shane O’Neill has been given his first signature shoe. Appropriately named the Nike SB Shane, the lightweight design has made its debut in three super clean colourways that allow the custom details to do the talking.
Commonly seen sporting Nike SB footwear over any other brand, O’Neill is a particular fan of low-cut silhouettes so it’s no surprise that his signature design has a low-profile with a smooth one piece toe vamp and a subtle split of suede and canvas across the side panels and heel. As a distinguishing feature of the Shane Shoe, perforated holes curve below the lace border and match the unique lacing system which allows you to choose whether you secure them in the traditional way or run them through durable ghillie loops. The tongue is made from textile and a custom suede label presents an earthy sun-inspired illustration which incorporates O’Neill’s initials within an organic graphic with ‘Shane’ written below. On either side of the foot a simplistic outline of the Nike Swoosh tick has been printed and below this neat colour matched top stitching edges the suede overlay panel and continues around to the heel where a Nike SB Shane graphic sits on a rubber stamp, overlapping upper and midsole. The first drop of the Nike SB Shane sees three colours released; the first a classic black and white design, a dark grey iteration with a gum brown mid and outsole and a fresh summit white colourway with crisp university red detailing.
As a remastered design that has been built to perform, the rubber has been thinned out in key areas for a lightweight, broken-in feel from unboxing and a Zoom Air unit has been inserted within the heel for responsive cushioning. Adding durability to this key area, an extended rubber toe bumper protects the front of the shoe from repetitive impact whilst slightly higher taping between the midsole and the upper aids a more consistent flick.
Celebrated for his super smooth technical style, Shane has been riding for Nike SB for over 15 years and has used his experience in wear testing his own footwear styles to create his first signature model. As a mashup of all the skate shoes he’s ever loved, the Shane Shoe captures his own personal style which is noticeably low key and extends across his own skate brand, April Skateboards, which he launched in 2019. With riders Yuto Horigome, Diego Najera, Ronnie Kessner, Noah Nayef, Nathan Jackson, Ish Cepeda, Kai Kishi and Johnny Tang, O’Neill is all about community and helping friends to reach their goals. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia Shane made the move to the USA which has acted as a launchpad for his career, leading him into international travel and to become a member of the SLS ‘9 Club’ for his admirable performance in the 2013 Street League competition where he made history with a tied highest score ever at 9.9 for his switchstance 360 double kickflip. It’s clear this is going to be another decade of greatness for O’Neill.
