Nike SB P-Rod Dunk High Premium
It’s been said that if Paul Rodriguez ‘P-Rod’ hadn’t become a skateboarder he’d have been a boxer. With this in mind, a new custom P-Rod Dunk High Premium holds this idea at its core with all white leather uppers adorned with bold colour tones that celebrate the pro skaters Mexican heritage and a famous pair of boxing gloves. For anyone who follows Rodriguez closely, you’ll be aware of his major knee injury in 2018 which led to surgery over the summer and a hiatus from skateboarding. Having now made a full recovery, Rodriguez’s return hasn’t gone unnoticed and the new year is off to a strong start with this footwear collab, a part within a new 6-part Netflix series Selena and a capsule collection of Primitive Skate apparel designed to raise awareness of children with cancer.
These Nike SB P-Rod Dunk High Premium shoes have a fresh look with super soft leather uppers and custom details that directly reference the riders love for boxing and proud Mexican heritage. A ‘World Champion’ belt lock across the bottom laces adds an ornate detail to the design with faux diamonds and a custom woven label positioned close to the top edge of the tongue shows similar graphics found on the waist of boxing shorts with stylised ‘Paul Rodriguez’ lettering in golden yellow with ‘Nike Skateboarding’ and ‘Professional’ text either side of a Swoosh tick. Perforation has been added across the toe vamp for ventilation and for all day comfort the padded tongue has a plush feel. The ankle collar is cushioned for further support and a responsive Zoom Air unit sits within either sockliner which have custom surface designs showing Rodriguez’s hands within red boxing gloves branded with the same label that can be found on the tongue.
Depicting the Mexican flag whilst bringing a distinctive burst of colour to the white uppers, red piping edges the toe and lace border which continues around the back of the heel. A leather Swoosh tick on either outer side panel is coloured in red on the right shoe and green on the left with white on the inners. Underfoot the flexible rubber outsole features a full cupsole stitch for durability and is enhanced by a red, white and green colour block design across the circular tread pattern. Each pair arrives within a vibrant multicoloured box with spare green laces.
Signed to Nike SB in 2004 just two years after the label launched, Paul Rodriguez released his first signature shoe just one year later and has maintained continuous momentum in the industry ever since. With an extensive list of achievements under his belt, including appearances within Tony Hawk video games, multiple gold medals at the X Games and an internationally recognised own brand ‘Primitive’, Rodriguez rides any setbacks well and is truly a man of many talents.
