Nike SB Dunk Low Pro 'Court Purple'

Keeping in check with the famed tri-tone Nike SB Dunk Low J-Pack ‘Chicago’ drop from late last year, the Nike SB Dunk Low Court Purple sneakers arrive as the latest addition to the brand’s ever-expanding platform of rehashed court-side classics. Meeting demand with detail and characterised magnetism, Nike SB’s latest colour-blocked Dunk Low release is one that pairs heritage basketball credibility with a sense of break-through purpose that has continued to legitimise the sport since its early skate-scene debut back in the late ‘90s.

With adverts first appearing in heavyweight ‘90s skate magazines such as Thrasher and Transworld, Nike SB has continued to conquer the evolutionary skate scene for over 30 years with its innovative cross-cultural design style and its commitment to the sport. Introduced formally back in 2001 by the late Sandy Bodecker, the Nike SB Dunk Low soon rose to fame, with the brand’s pioneering ‘Colours By’ series from 2002 featuring four signature colourways designed in collaboration with four prominent of-the-era skaters; Reese Forbes, Gino Ianucci, Richard Mulder and Danny Supa. Embracing the OG basketball silhouette in all its new-found skate-centric glory, the SB Dunk Low essentially launched the success of the brand from their ‘new kid on the block’ foundation to now hosts of one of the most iconic silhouettes to ever grace both skate and sneaker culture.

Still loyal to the brand’s skate-shop roll-out initiatives, the court-purple Dunk Low Pro joins an ever-expanding line-up of releases, following in the footsteps of recently dropped silhouettes designed in collaboration with the likes of Dubai’s Frame Skate Shop, Boston-based Concepts and Tokyo’s Instant Skateboards. For admirers of its classic colour-blocked aesthetic, the Nike SB Dunk Low Court Purple hosts striking similarities to the ‘Varsity Purple’ Dunk High SP from 2020’s Special Projects reissue collection, 2018’s Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Court Purple’ and the recently released 1991 remastered Dunk Low ACG Terra, all of which bring renewed life to a colourway once popularised by mainstream skate and basketball culture.

Adhering to Nike’s popular tri-tone aesthetic, these dark-panelled Dunk Low Pros combine depth with definition to deliver a striking sense of wear. Crafted from the usual premium-grade leather, the sneaker’s butter-smooth uppers are styled with mix-match quarter panels in shades of crisp-white, black and purple, with the ‘black toe’ colour-blocking an inherited feature most commonly seen on the iconic Jordan 1 profile. Nike SB’s revolutionary Zoom Air unit sockliner complements the classic circular-tread detailed rubber sole and the split-tone flexible cupsole for improved traction and multi-directional grip, whilst the perforated toe-box ensures exemplary circulatory comfort to suit any given setting. Interchangeable puffy-style rounded laces secure the padded ‘Nike SB Dunk Low Pro’ embroidered tongue across the natural arch of the foot, whilst the all-black padded interior collar supplies additional support as and when needed. Merging the tail-end of each side-wall Swoosh, tonal black-stitch ‘Nike’ ankle-tab detailings seal the design, whilst the custom court-purple toned insoles keep the sneaker classic yet contemporary in its revelatory composure.
