Nike SB Dunk Low Pro 'Classic Green'
In keeping with colour block trends and the classic aesthetic associated with the OG Air Jordan 1’s illustrious on and off-court legacy, the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro returns in a ‘Classic Green’ colourway to complement its Court Purple sibling from January this year. Inspired by NBA traditions, team colourings and the Dunk’s ever-evolving namesake, these triple toned sneakers pair refreshing odes to the infamous Boston Celtic colourway with an ageless sense of transferred, court-to-skate appeal.
Arriving as part of Michael Jordan’s heritage influenced ‘J-Pack’ collection, a release that is also home to the Chicago Bulls referencing Nike SB Dunk Low Pro from Autumn 2020, these classic green Dunk’s pay subtle tribute to the iconic colourway made famous by the TD Garden’s Boston Celtics. Mimicking the colour blocked aesthetic of the Nike Air Jordan 1 ‘Celtics’ from 2009 that were released alongside the ‘Bred 1’ Air Jordan 1 as part of the Defining Moments Pack (DMP), this low collared remastering not only pays tribute to the legacy of the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division NBA team, but to Jordan’s infamous 63-pointer performance at the 1986 Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics playoff that was dubbed the ‘greatest individual performances in playoff history’. With the iconic Dunk High LE’s from 1999 wading in just 13 years later to act as the block tone torch-bearer of team sport colouring, this triple hued release celebrates its well earnt time in the spotlight once more.
The classic green, white and black aesthetic is a striking colour combination that’s undoubtedly become a firm favourite for Nike SB over the past few years, with the controversial Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Heineken’, Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Pine Green’ and even the Nike SB x Concepts Dunk Low ‘Green Lobster’ all tapping into its refreshing colourway in some form or another. Inspired by the filter flipping functionality of most smart phone devices, December 2020’s Nike SB Inverted Dunk High Pro Premium offered a unique take on the Boston Celtic’s referential aesthetic, with the mixed textured shaggy suede pink and black overlays an expressive complement to the inverted green and white medial of the high collared sneaker.
Much like its other J-Pack counterparts, the ‘Classic Green’ Nike SB Dunk Low Pro retains classic courtside traditions through its advanced, skate specific adaptation of trims such as the vulcanised cupsole and the Air Jordan 1’s black toe colour blocking below the perforated forefoot. A bright green rubber outsole provides increased multi-directional traction inspired by its hardwood legacy, whilst the resilient premium leather uppers in shades of crisp white and bold black combine for a modernised uplift on the iconic monochrome silhouette. Puffy and interchangeable laces complement the recessed 6 eyelet lacing system to secure the OG ‘Nike SB Dunk Low Pro’ padded tongue across the natural arch of the foot, whilst the performative Zoom Air unit within the sockliner keeps the design’s skate specific functionality at the forefront of its design. Statement black Swooshes elevate the sidewalls and block tone green lateral quarters to increase its overall sense of colourful-filled character, with tonal embroidered ‘Nike’ branding appearing across each padded ankle collar in keeping with the design’s traditional blueprint.
