Nike SB Dunk High Pro 'Hawaii'

Commemorating the coastal charm and spiritual appeal associated with the iconic Aloha State, the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Hawaii’ pairs surf-scene undertones with age-old basketball references as a way of immortalizing the archipelago’s paradise of the Pacific portrayal. Odes to the crystal-clear ocean that surround the eight major islands pair well with references to the native state-flower Hawaiian hibiscus and hemp-crafted beachwear to offer a laid-back tropical-themed take on a time-honoured court classic.

Embracing Hawaii’s ‘Aloha’ spirit; a mutual regard for affection and warmth in caring with no obligation in return, Nike SB turns its attention once more to the Polynesian island with its latest Dunk High remastering. Following in pursuit of other state-themed releases such as the Aloha-collection deviating Nike SB Stefan Janoski ‘Palm Leaves’, Flower-Pack Nike SB Dunk Low Hibiscus and the infamous Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Hawaii’ inspired by the Big Island and Pele - the Hawaiian Goddess of Volcanoes, the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Hawaii’ isn’t the first skate-specific rework to honour island living and Polynesian heritage. With special attention given to its hemp-crafted construction, an ode to traditional beachwear and rattan coastal-front furnishings, these blossoming floral-print skate shoes are mirrored by similar hemp-fabric releases such as the Stussy’s collaborative Nike Air Force 1 from late last year, the raw-hemp Nike Air Zoom Type and the Nike SB Dunk Low Hemp from 2016. Pairing parent-brand Nike’s passion for innovative function with the brand’s ability to source sustainably outside its usual remit, Nike SB’s latest Hawaiian release brings a refreshing wave of island-inspired individuality to the now world-renowned street, skate and courtside silhouette.

Ecologically-minded in its reimagined construction, the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Hawaii’ is styled with reinforced tearaway uppers crafted from sustainably-sourced hemp, whilst the all-over repeated white-and-pink hibiscus flower print, and to-be-revealed shaggy suede palm-tree underlay, pairs well with the ocean-blue aquamarine exterior shade to help commemorate the design’s ties to the Pacific Ocean island. A crisp-white fully vulcanised midsole sits on top of a washed-cream sun-bleach toned rubber outsole, complete with classic circular-tread underfoot detailing, whilst the tonal textured side-wall Swooshes and material-matched puffy laces secure the hemp canvas ‘Nike SB Dunk High Pro’ pocketed and padded tongue across the natural arch of the foot to provide further security to suit any given terrain, setting or skate style. A Zoom Air unit across the sockliner remains true to tradition to supply improved cushioning and impact-resistant flex from first wear, with the hemp-taped collar seams wrapping around the lightly-padded ankle support to mirror the handy hemp-loop pull tabs on the reverse forged from the fused swoop-back Swooshes. Custom NeNe Goose and erupting volcano illustrative insoles and a washed-out vintage feel embrace the design, for a sun-soaked beachwear vibe that pays tribute to the design’s easy island-living, Aloha undertone.
