Introducing the eccentric and futuristic Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Gundam’ - a tribute to evolutionary anime collector culture and to Nike SB’s recent homage to Japan. Following in pursuit of the recently released Nike SB x FTC ‘penny bath’ Dunk Low Pro, Piet Parra’s Tokyo 2020 themed Dunk Low and the Nike SB x Instant Dunk Low Pro QS 2, this RX-0 Unicorn Gundam themed release taps into robotic influence and cartoon culture at its core.

Originally debuting in 1979 as a military fiction inspired series that ultimately defined the ‘real robot’ subgenre of today’s mecha themed anime, Mobile Suit Gundam’s immersive legacy is one that spans the expanse of 50 individual TV series and over 80 video game adaptations. Created by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, Mobile Suit Gundam finds itself as one of the most popular media mixes of all time, ranking next to other iconic franchises such as Pokemon, Astro Boy and Doraemon. Capturing the appeal of Universal Century (UC) with its futuristic undertone, militaristic references and its ageless appeal, Gundam is ultimately defined by a synergy between compelling storytelling and expert design. With Japanese culture in mind, this wouldn’t be the first time the anime series has been memorialised in sneaker form, with 2018 witnessing the release of two ideational releases; the Footpatrol x ASICS GEL-Saga 'Gundam' and the ‘Gundam’ Air Max 98 - a release that also coincided with the silhouette’s 20 year anniversary.
Focusing on protagonist Banagher Links’ RX-0 Unicorn Gundam for this release, a character famed for its titular prototype suit and its Earth Federation loyalty, the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Gundam’ is styled with premium leather uppers and eccentric block tone underlays that pay tribute to the robotic character’s layered panels and mechanical joints. Nike’s progressive Zoom Air unit provides exemplary cushioning and support to suit any highly energised setting, with the revised toe box perforations and colour blocked soles inspired by the feet of the much loved RX-0 design. A traction focused circular tread makes light work of any challenging terrains in honour of its OG courtside ties, with the recessed 9 eyelet lacing system styleable through an accompanying set of 4 interchangeable laces. The green and gold ‘Nike SB Dunk High Pro’ tongue pays creative tribute to the character’s neon eyes and transforming horned helmet, with the exterior facing lateral quarters printed with referential ‘RX-0 Dunk High’ Warning detailing in honour of the Gundam’s iconic aesthetic. Signed off with metallic gold sidewall Swooshes, with the exterior walls styled with detachable 3D velcro attached variants for added creative character, whilst the neon toned interior lining is complemented by classic black and red rear collar detailing styled in reference to Unicorn Gundam’s multi-layered construction.
Accompanying its sibling silhouette, Nike SB also releases an RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee inspired Dunk High Pro styled in ode of the ‘Black Unicorn’ suit originally piloted by Marida Cruz. Switching the classic white and red colour blocked leather elements for shades of black, red and gold in honour of the suit’s regal, after dark vibe, the Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Gundam’s’ second instalment is one that welcomes an alternative aesthetic inspired by their iconic series. The same colour blocked cupsole, Zoom Air unit and circular tread underfoot detailing remain true to the classic Dunk High, whilst the black leather underlays and colour-switched overlays complement the 3D golden Swooshes to create a referential aesthetic that pays tribute to the suit’s atmospheric influence. The same ‘RX-0 Dunk High’ Warning decal across the exterior facing lateral quarters mimics that of its RX-0 Unicorn Gundam counterpart, with its juxtaposed black and gold colouring an ideational reflection of the iconic Banshee Norn aesthetic.

For each release we will invite those interested to enter a draw to purchase prior to the products actual designated time of release. Card payment will be required to register for each draw and your payment will be authorised but the funds not taken by us unless your name is successfully drawn at the designated time and date of the actual release.
If you are unsuccessful in the draw the pre-authorisation will be voided and your funds released, it may take up to five working days before you see your funds available in your account again.
