Introducing: The Vans AVE Pro

A sneaker that demands the same respect as Anthony Van Engelen’s ‘good is never good enough’ ethos and hell-raising skate legacy, the enduring Vans AVE Pro skate shoe hosts a revolutionary composure that lands on par with the skater’s headstrong persona. With a healthy rosta of signature models already assigned to his ‘AV’ and ‘AVE’ namesake, the 2019 debuting Vans AVE Pro takes centre stage as a signature silhouette built to handle even the most demanding of sessions.

Born and raised in San Diego with a skate-starved six month stretch in Russia fueling his now-untameable desire to skate even the most precarious of locations, Van Engelen is just one of those skater’s you can’t ever seem to get enough of. Referred to as a ‘bull that charges at everything in its path’, Van Engelen breached pro stature for the late, great Alien Workshop at the age of just 21, with his iconic assignment to the Vans global team coming into fruition in 2005. Honoured by Transworld SKATEboarding in 2009 with the Best Video Part of the Year award for his stint in Alien Workshop’s ‘Mind Field’ and celebrated Thrasher Magazine SOTY circa 2015, thanks to his finishing part in Vans’ first-ever full-length ‘Propeller’, Van Engelen is a time-honoured skater with a formidable track-record to match. Splitting time between his and good-friend Jason Dill’s Fucking Awesome and Vans, AVE has continued to conquer the footwear game, with countless silhouettes such as the Vans Era, Sk8-Low and Native American all etched with his ‘AV’ bona fide.

Boasting obvious odes to the iconic, and limited-stock, Vans AVE Rapidweld Pro Lite from 2018, the game-changing Vans AVE Pro actively honours the regular-footed skaters ‘barely satisfied with great’ mindset. Demanding the most ‘uncompromising and technically advanced’ design that Vans has even made, the mixed-material AVE Pro boasts a natural cupsole progression that combines Vans’ stitchless Rapidweld technology with a locked-in LuxLiner integrated fitting, reinforced DURACAP underlays and with the brand’s superior UltimateWaffle outsole for a supportive and stabilizing wear. Similar to fellow team-rider Chima Ferguson’s Pro 2 silhouette in terms of the appointment of high-stress supporting overlays, the Vans AVE Pro takes no-sew construction to a whole new level. Lightweight and styled with a built-in stabilizing shank for a seamless sense of balance support, the advanced silhouette takes aim at being one of the most innovative designs to date. Releases such as the icy-soled Blanc De Blanc colourway and the similarly-styled White & Smoke profile tap into Van Engelen’s more subversive side, whilst the precision-engineered Black & Gum style honours a classic colour-pairing inspired by OG drops such as the Old Skool Pro and Chukka Low.

Coming full-circle to celebrate the threefold bestowal that unites Vans, Fucking Awesome and AVE, Miami-born skater Beatrice Domond turns to good-friend Van Engelen’s pro shoe for collaborative inspiration. Enhanced by the ‘mutual respect shared by Domond and Van Engelen’, these paisley-etched bone and jade coloured AVE Pro sneakers are designed to impress. A semi-transparent outsole makes a comeback as it conceals the ‘Beatrice’ black-print underfoot details, whilst the tonal brushed-suede overlays and refreshed ‘Off The Wall’ heel-scab pay active reference to the skater’s experimental style.
