In Focus: Louis Seedhouse
Flatspot introduces, ‘In Focus’.
A community driven photo project that follows the lives of five Southwest based photographers as they spend a month creating a piece of work that reflects their lived experience of Devon and Cornwall. ‘In Focus’ aims to allow the photographers a platform to showcase their work, as well as giving insight into different individuals' artistic processes and their motivations for focussing on creative projects in this part of the world.
To kick off the project we spent the evening camping with lifeguard and friend of the store, Louis Seedhouse, where he discussed growing up on the South Coast of Cornwall, his relationship with the ocean, surfing and how he got into photography.
“Getting the opportunity to shoot a project without any strict brief was really refreshing. Most of my images normally focus on travelling to new places and documenting the people and environments I am surrounded by. For this project I wasn't going to be able to travel anywhere new, but instead decided to capture my favourite time of year at home on the South Coast of Cornwall. The springtime is great for chasing waves and spending time outdoors in this part of the country, so I took my camera along for the ride.”

"I started shooting photos when I was probably like ten years old. Kind of did it backwards, started shooting photos on digital and then ended up starting shooting photos on film afterwards"
"So a lot of the stuff I normally shoot is traveling and going away, but seeing as I couldn’t get away this time of year. I chose to focus on the area where I live"
"I’ve shot some surf stuff, some hiking, some camping and some stuff from a sailboat. Just spending time on the coast around South East Cornwall really"
