Hélas Spring 2022: Collection Overview
New arrivals from Hélas’ Spring ‘22 collection has arrived with a selection of Hélas clothing and an accompanying lookbook featuring the likes of Isaiejah Woldemedin, Timo Moffen, Ilan Kraiem Zeitoun and Nassim Sedratti. Sharing the same sense of ‘80s nostalgia as the first SP22 drop, released last month, these new arrivals turn their attention to French architecture, European art culture and French colour palettes for inspiration.
Founded and created by adidas and Palace pro skater Lucas Puig and fellow skateboarders Clement Brunel and Stephen Khou in 2011, Hélas’ explorative aesthetic combines old school and contemporary reference though a multitude of colourway combinations. Known for their iconic umbrella logo and for their epochal graphics, Hélas’ first Spring ‘22 drop remained focused on honouring their passion for unique styling. Apparel sets included the khaki green and brown Polo Club range of Pyjama Pants whilst the Orga T-Shirt and Hoodie capsule paid homage to the brand’s anti-corporate narrative.
For their second SP22 drop, new season colour block apparel includes the black Class Long Sleeve T-Shirt, a style influenced by the previous collection’s Class Sweater and Sweatpant combo, whilst the block tone Hélas Fluff Hoodie features a tonal applique umbrella logo sewn between the shoulders on the reverse. Matching sets continue across the new drop with the illustrative Ornamento Pyjama Shirt and Pyjama Pant duo ultimately inspired by vintage French architecture and styled as a contrasting complement to the checked Vitto Hooded Jacket and Cargo Pants. Similar Euro-centric influence is cited across the chest of the Hélas Fiesta T-Shirt, a short sleeve tee with a printed graphic inspired by the 1847 ‘Les Romains de la Décadence’ painting by French artist Thomas Couture.
With ‘80s and ‘90s fashion remaining a cornerstone of their aesthetic influence, new season Hélas jackets include the lightweight Dune Tracksuit Jacket made from 100% nylon and paired with matching Tracksuit Pants. For admirers of vintage denim wear, the regular fitting Hellass Denim Jacket and matching Hellass Jeans feature exposed white stitchings and flame-like ‘Hellass’ branding across the sleeves and pant legs. The brand’s love for classic French pastel colour tones is retained, with the patchwork Carre Crewneck Sweatshirt featuring asymmetric panels woven throughout. New Hélas caps include the colour block and part-mesh Surface Cap, available in shades of both black and lavender and styled with a classic five panel construction and a technical zip-cord fastening, whilst the Caviar Bucket Hat pays subtle homage to militaria with its beige and black colouring.
Alongside December’s ‘Paris’ edit featuring Flo Mirtain, Thierry Gormit, Pedro Attenborough and Karl Salah, as well as Victor Campillo’s self-titled part that was released in February this year, Hélas also celebrated the release of their first web-exclusive capsule in April with a twelve piece apparel collection featuring exclusive artwork from photographer Franco Vaccari.
