Converse x Golf Wang Chuck 70
Renowned for his definitive design style and his expressive musical legacy, Tyler the Creator’s latest collaboration with Converse welcomes two luxe-like Converse Chuck 70’s into his eclectic mix of footwear and apparel. Arriving as the first ever Converse x Golf Wang low top design, Tyler trades classic canvas for pastel coloured snakeskin leather as a tribute to exotic prints, subversive details and his passion for irreverent styling.
Known as Tyler Gregory Okonma, as well as by the monikers of Wolf Haley and Dr. TC, Tyler the Creator has arguably grown to become one of the most influential artists, producers and songwriter since the late 2000s. Supported by his Odd Future and Loiter Squad origins, Tyler’s international recognition remains a true reflection of his forever metamorphosing character. Winning a VMA for Best New Artist in 2011, thanks to his debut studio album Goblin, Tyler’s musical career continues to develop, with his 2019 IGOR album landing him his first No.1 album on the Billboard 200 and 2021’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST album featuring work alongside the likes of DAISY WORLD and DJ Drama.
Established in 2011 and the brainchild of Tyler and the 2007 founded Odd Future Collective, although publicly separating in 2013, Golf Wang has continued to grow from its humble beginnings to become known for their Old Skool collaborations with Vans, their 501 Day’ release in partnership with Levi's® and for their on-going GOLF Le Fleur collaboration with Converse that began in 2017. Opening their Fairfax Avenue GOLF flagship the same year on the same road that stores such as Diamond, Supreme and Flight Club call home, the microcosmic location of their LA-based store remains a true reflection of the brand’s passion for skateboarding, hip-hop, and youth culture, as well as old school nostalgia and an admiration for evolutionary Americana. A spoonerism inspired by both parties’ Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) roots, Golf Wang’s thematic collections remain continually inspired by the works of eccentric film makers such as Wes Anderson, and by Tyler’s adoration for controversial design and his own maximalist views.
Following on from their debut ‘Clearwater’ Converse x Golf Wang from 2017, their sequential Golf Wang GOLF Le Fleur Converse series, their ‘60s workwear inspired ‘Industrial’ line and their most recent ‘Flames’ Converse Chuck 70 release from 2021, Tyler the Creator continues his celebration of luxe fashion, exotic prints and expressive origination with his double Converse x Golf Wang Chuck 70 Ox release. Styled with a python inspired, snakeskin leather construction in shades of both pastel pink and icy blue this two-part capsule pays homage to the artist's love of French pastel colourways; an aesthetic mimicked by his stand alone GOLF le FLEUR* fashion line that launched in 2021. Tonal coloured rubber foxings and a hazy rubber outsole create a streamlined look, with classic courtside details such as the metallic inner sidewall ventilation eyelets and the protective rubber toe box trim. The seven eyelet flat lacing system secures each zig-zag stitched tongue in place, whilst co-designed ‘GOLF x Converse’ printed insoles appear across both designs. Finished with Converse’s vintage Chuck Taylor license plate across each heel in a design matched, pastel rubber shade.
