Butter Goods & Friends

Portraying a deep love for music and jazz compilations lost in time, Perth based Butter Goods has returned with a Q4 release filled with visual references to nature, sound and a worldwide network that joins the two together. As part of an international collective of independent skater-owned brands and well known for their roots within Australia’s dynamic and progressive skateboarding scene, at the core of each release is a focus on skate clothing that offers a variety of loose, comfortable silhouettes across key everyday t-shirts, hoodies, fleeces and jackets.

Standing in a league of their own through the use of artwork that not only adds a distinctive decorative touch to each release, but demonstrates a rich knowledge and love for key creative figures in history, whether it is a pioneering jazz artist or illustration drawn in the style of an iconic artist or movie, Butter Goods goes beyond creating goods for the sake of it, instead using clothing and accessories to pay tribute to some of the most noteworthy trailblazers of the past.

Mindful of their global following, for the Q4 collection fabrics such as cotton, nylon mesh, corduroy and fleece have been utilised to suit both the arrival of winter in Europe and Australia’s summer months by ensuring shapes can be worn alone and paired up to suit varying weather conditions. New statement prints such as spider webs, variations on stripes and vintage-inspired plaid bring extra character to key shapes whilst peace symbols, angel cherubs and panelled colour blocking reflect a variety of influences from both classic and more contemporary trends.

Butter Goods Flowers Classic Logo Pullover Hoodie  |  Brixton Cass Jacket  |  Carhartt Flint Pants  |  Stussy Big Logo Velveteen Low Pro Cap  |  Vans Old Skool Sport Pro

This casual ensemble is a staple for winter with insulation provided by Brixton through the classically styled Cass Jacket in military olive layered with the heavyweight Butter Goods Flowers Classic Logo Pullover Hoodie which features cheerful flower artwork on the centre of the chest. The horizontal stitched baffles on the jacket help to move warmth around the body without unwanted bulk and the hoodie has a heavyweight finish that is guaranteed to keep you covered when the temperature drops. As a brand new addition to the Carhartt catalogue for heavy duty designs, the Flint Pants offer a combination of stretch and durability with utilitarian pockets and a tapered-fit that sits well over low-cut skate shoes, such as this contemporary take on a heritage model for the Vans Old Skool Sport Pro with monochrome mesh uppers and detailing. When it comes to headwear for protection against wind chill, the Stussy Big Logo Velveteen Low Pro Cap adds a regal touch with the famous signature logo proudly presented on the centre front of the crown against deep tone navy.

Helas Smash Crewneck Sweatshirt  |  Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket  |  Butter Goods Homeboy Denim Pants  |  Converse x Pop Trading Company JP Pro Ox

Presenting playful ‘90s inspired patch decoration with a more refined look, the light washed Butter Goods Homeboy Denim Pants have a characteristic appeal that brings new life to an essential denim style, enhanced further by a custom cut complete with an internal drawcord. For skating, we suggest wearing them with an untucked t-shirt or a loose pullover sweatshirt such as the Helas Smash Crewneck Sweatshirt which has a print that adds to the ‘90s influences of the trousers. For an additional burst of colour and offering all the performance features you could want, the organic, recycled and sustainable Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket is a prime choice as far as outerwear goes. The collaborative Converse x Pop Trading Company JP Pro Ox Shoes help to execute the decorative colour focus of this outfit with purple faux ‘dragonskin’ leather uppers across the iconic Jack Purcell badminton inspired silhouette, complete with simplistic ‘Pop Trading Company’ lettering set within the famous ‘smile’ shape around the front of the toe cap.

Nike SB Novelty Crewneck Sweatshirt  |  Polar Puffer Vest  |  Butter Goods Web Pants  |  Carhartt United Script Cap  |  adidas Puig

Making a statement as a key piece within the Butter Goods Q4 release, the monochrome Web Pants bring a bold look to everyday with an all over spider web illustrative print and suit active days thanks to the use of a durable nylon blend, a climbing inspired fastening and cargo pockets. The contemporary finish is lightweight and reduces bulk in comparison to denim counterparts and pairs especially well with minimalistic pieces such as the Nike SB Novelty Crewneck Sweatshirt. Key for extra warmth without restricting movement in the arms, Polar Skate Co.’s Puffer Vest is a great solution for additional coverage during urban and outdoor explorations with RDS certified-down padding that provides a higher level of warmth than synthetic fills to suit crisp, dry winter days. To complete the look, we recommend keeping in tune with a monochromatic focus by selecting the black Carhartt United Script Cap and an impressive new iteration of the adidas Puig Shoes which boast technical skate-focused features that guarantee a smooth ride.

Butter Goods Market Stripe T-Shirt  |  Patagonia Retro Pile Fleece Jacket  |  Levi's® Skate Work Pants  |  Parlez Flatholm Beanie  |  Nike SB Janoski Remastered

One for more relaxed days, you can never go wrong with a striped tee, and for this season Butter Goods have included additional embroidery for a classic touch to their Market Stripe T-Shirt in between clusters of multicoloured horizontal stripes woven into the 100% cotton body and sleeves. Clashing well with the repeat tartan print chosen for Levi's® abrasion-resistant Skate Work Pants, the combination subtly reflects elements of ‘90s grunge culture and offers something extra for casual at-home styling. No winter outfit is complete without a cosy knitted beanie - the Parlez Flatholm Beanie is our go to - or a fleece which we look to Patagonia for who continue to provide variations on their infamous Retro Pile Fleece style. Crafted with attention to quality and material as well as references to their impressive archive, Patagonia’s expertise in creating functional outdoor-focused clothing is reflected through each update and edition. Allowing the two contrasting prints to do the talking, we’ve selected the neutral Nike SB Janoski Remastered Shoes as a finishing touch with a crisp white outsole.

Butter Goods Peace Piece T-Shirt  |  Parlez Bathsheba Jacket  |  Helas Aero Pants  |  Pass Port Intersolid Pom Pom Beanie  |  Nike SB Janoski Flyleather

Reminding us of Butter Goods’ love for music, in particular jazz, respect has been paid to the great American musician Bill Evans and what is considered to be one of the most beautiful solo piano improvisations ever recorded through the Peace Piece T-Shirt, with typography, peace symbols and cherub angels printed on the front as well as a full scale print of sheet music across the reverse. Acting as a base for everyday wear and suiting time spent relaxing and working at home, we advise layering the tee with the Bathsheba Jacket from Parlez alongside the Helas Aero Pants to suit both relaxing and activewear. As a fresh approach on a staple knitted headwear design constructed from 100% cotton for breathable warmth, we’re into the custom ‘international solidarity’ print around the centre of the crown of Pass Port’s Intersolid Pom Pom Beanie and completing the outfit whilst also complementing the selection of lighter tone shades, progressions within sustainable footwear from Nike SB are reflected through the tumbled grey edition of the Nike SB Janoski Flyleather which immediately elevates any sportswear-orientated outfit.

Offering something for all with a mixture of styles that incorporate elements from ‘90s hiking designs, more formal tailoring and a mix of Americana denim, this season allows you to chop and change your style to suit your mood through a rich variety of goods designed with a focus on comfort and practicality at their core. With additional character added through each brand’s own creative vision and a definite movement into hybrid pieces that combine a number of references in one, labels such as Butter Goods encourage wearers to do the same whether it be through choosing super functional outerwear, opting for a casual hoodie with statement embroidery or a t-shirt that celebrates the rich creativity coming out of independent skate labels - the choice is yours.

The Butter Goods 2020 Q4 drop will be available online on Saturday 5th December at 00:00am (GMT).
