adidas x Dill Samba
Following on from 2020’s snakeskin themed release and styled in a minimal black and white colourway for a classic look, the adidas x Dill Samba is a skate shoe inspired by both adidas’ pioneering 3-stripe legacy and by Fucking Awesome co-founder Dill’s creative intent.
Renowned for his expressive artistry and his passion for celebrating skate culture’s rapidly evolving narrative, skater Jason Dill has continued to capture the attention of many since his OG World Industries days, his ties to Alien Workshop and his appearances in edits such as ‘Photosynthesis’, ‘MindField’ and Girl Skateboards’ ‘Yeah Right!’. Founded originally in 2001 as a DIY clothing brand and then re-launched in 2014 with the help of Anthony Van Engelen, the same duo behind sibling brand Hocking Skateboards, Fucking Awesome is a skateboarding brand etched with Dill’s creative influence. Joining adidas as a team rider in 2018 and kick starting Fucking Awesome’s continued collaboration with the brand in the same year, Jason Dill and adidas have built-up a highly creative partnership over the years to include releases such as the adidas x Fucking Awesome Instalment One and shared skater Tyshawn Jones’ adidas x Fucking Awesome Tyshawn release from 2020.
Originally debuting in 1949, the adidas Samba has become known for its classic silhouette and its hailed influence from both terrace culture and OG soccer sport stylings. Following in the footsteps of both the adidas Gazelle and the adidas Stan Smith to become known as one of the most popular and iconic adidas sneakers of all time, this latest adidas x Dill Samba arrives as a creative follow-up on Dill’s snakeskin Samba Decon from two years ago and from similarly styled silhouettes such as fellow team rider Dennis Busenitz’s Vulc II and Vintage skate shoes.
Styled with a traditional colour block aesthetic inspired by the profile’s original football roots, the adidas x Dill Samba features supple white leather uppers with a reinforced Adituff toe box and a translucent outsole for a creative take on the classic gum rubber design. A circular underfoot tread complements the profile’s fully vulcanised construction for a structurally enhanced and all-terrain wear, with T-toe overlays flowing into the recessed seven eyelet lacing system. Flat laces secure the contoured tongue in place, with gold foil ‘Dill’ tongue branding a signature detail borrowed from 2020’s snakeskin Samba Decon release. Finished with black 3-Stripes across each midfoot, a padded collar and with black ankle detailing inspired by the Samba’s soccer sport heritage.
