adidas Rider Series: Heitor Forum 84 Low ADV

Hosting striking similarity to other basketball rewrites such as the adidas Tyshawn skate shoes and the slightly bulkier Liberty Cup profile, Heitor Da Silva’s first pro-model release sets its sights on tackling an iconic ‘80s silhouette as it debuts as part of adidas’ legendary Rider Series. Welcoming the adidas Heitor Forum 84 Low ADV shoes into the ever-expanding rosta to join the likes of the previously announced 3ST.004 from initial collaborator Miles Silvas and the snakeskin-inspired Samba Deacons from Jason Dill, this latest addition celebrates heritage, nostalgic aesthetic and precision-engineered performance at its best.

Coined both a ‘hit on the courts and on the streets’, the 1984 Forum Mid was famed for its iconic cross-cultural appeal and its, then, unheard of $100 price tag. A celebrated ‘driving force’ profile that dominated the court during the early ‘80s, the OG Forum was revolutionary in its form; fusing street-led desire with sporting innovation - something that was only just beginning to be achieved by mainstream sport sneakers. Inaugurated by Lafayette’s Sneaker Politics’ re-run this year with a limited 500-pair drop in support of local businesses, the famed ‘84 Forum continues to honour its timeless legacy still to this day.

At the age of just 21, Brazillian-born Heitor Da Silva is a force to be reckoned with, speaking four different languages and appearing in notable edits alongside the legendary Mark Gonzales and in Quartersnacks’ #QSTOP10, SOLO Skateboard Magazine’s THREEE Series and his own ‘Heitor’ debut adidas short-form from 2019. With affiliations to the all-new Liberty Cup sneaker, backed by his appearance alongside fellow adidas team-riders Frankie Spears and Jamal Smith in the NYC-shot edit, as well as with his ‘Off Campus’ ADV colourway joining the quad-profile line up back in 2018, now seems the fitting time for fast-footed Da Silva to tackle one of the most iconic courtside silhouettes to date.

Styled in a unique colourway that pinpoints Da Silva’s noted ‘bold outfit choices’ down to a T, this premium-leather cupsole sneaker brings skate-specific function to an ageless basketball legacy. Full-grain leather in a regal shade of noble-purple pairs neatly with pebbled crisp-white leather across the ‘84 like-for-like toe-box, whilst the perforated glossy-stripe adidas sidewalls and the accentuated heel-clip brace delivers one-on-one likeness to its yesteryear muse. A gum-brown traction orientated underfoot keeps grippy, multi-terrain functionality at the forefront of its design, whilst the debossed trefoil on the lateral side playfully mirrors the debossed midsole branding for added certifiability. A padded and perforated mesh tongue replaces the iconic single-strap velcro fastening seen across the original low and mid-top variants from the early ‘80s, whilst adidas’ Adiprene molded sockliner and the signature ‘Heitor da Silva’ gold-font branding signs these eclectic re-writes with just the right amount of Forum DNA to warrant them their own unique aesthetic.

Following up on Mariah Duran and Jenn Soto’s unisex Rider Series release from June 2020, a commemorative dual-drop in honour of the Superstar’s 50th anniversary, the adidas Heitor Forum 84 Low ADV arrives as yet another unapologetically unique profile that joins ‘the badge of sport’ adidas’ ever-expanding commemorative rosta. Pairing skate-friendly formulations with odes to the brand’s early-year achievements across the court, Heitor Da Silva’s debut signature silhouette seamlessly captures the very essence of evolutionary skate culture with its encapsulated, nobalised and yesteryear-referencing design.

The adidas Heitor Forum 84 Low ADV will be available at Flatspot on Saturday 5th December at 00:00am (GMT).
