adidas Jamal Smith Adimatic

adidas’ throwback to a ‘90s skate classic. An adidas skate shoe icon that originally launched in 1996, the adidas Adimatic returns in a signature colourway designed in partnership with team rider Jamal Smith. Styled in a bold black and orange colourway, drawing inspiration from hip-hop culture, sample loops and Jamal Smith's Tornado Spin.

Launching in 1996, the adidas Adimatic’s fat laces and chunky upper was one joined by the likes of the adidas Dave Mirra and iconic styles from brands such as éS, Etnies, Vans and DC. Celebrating its official re-imagining in 2022, the adidas x Jamal Smith Adimatic pays homage to ‘90s nostalgia as it draws creative influence from Jamal’s (aka PoptartPete) love for hip-hop music and his early years spent skating favoured Philly skate spots such as John F. Kennedy Plaza’s Love Park.

Skating since the age of 14 and moving back to Philadelphia aged 18, Jamal grew up skating Philly spots such as City Hall, Clothes Pin and FDR skate park. Renowned for this affiliation with Palace that began around 2013, thanks to his viral ‘How-To’ video featuring his signature ‘Tornado Spin’ from 2006, Jamal then went on to turn pro for Lev Tanju’s brand in 2019. Featuring in numerous Palace parts over the years, including ‘Palasonic’, ‘Betamaxium’ and the brand’s most recent ‘BEYOND THE 3RD WAVE’ edit alongside fellow adidas skaters Lucas Puig and Heitor Da Silva.

A creative tribute to the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ and styled in a colourway that mimics the team kit of the Philadelphia Flyers, the adidas Jamal Smith Adimatic arrives as a contemporary re-invention of the ‘90s adidas skate shoe. Featuring reinforced black suede uppers made from at least 50% recycled content, this low collar sneaker is also styled with oversized orange nubuck side stripes and a tonal adidas rubber badge worked into each sole. A blacked out and stacked midsole features zig-zag forefoot and heel overlays, whilst the gum rubber outsole features a multi-traction tread for increased grip. The recessed five eyelet lacing system is styled with wide, flat laces that secure the padded tongue in place, whilst an OrthoLite sockliner provides additional cushioning. Finished with an embroidered adidas trefoil logo on the heel and with custom insoles that pays subtle reference to Jamal’s Tornado Spin trick with its rotating arrow design.

Dropping in May ‘22, and following on from releases from fellow adidas’ skaters Kader Sylla and Blondey McCoy with the adidas x Kader Superstar ADV and the Terrace Casual culture inspired A.B. adidas by Blondey capsule.
