Founded in 1984 by Shawn Stussy who was originally a surfboard shaper from Laguna Beach, CA the brand developed throughout the late 1970s to mid 1980s when it reached hip-hop and DJ scenes. Thanks to Stussy’s decision to keep releases limited, popularity soared which led the brand to collaborate with Nike in the early 00s.
