Carrying distinctive late ‘90s and early ‘00s aesthetics inspired by the DC footwear archive, these collaborative DC x Butter Goods Kalis OG Shoes have layered navy and white uppers made from a selection of materials that result in a sculpted, prominent look that confidently stands out from more streamlined models. A polyurethane coated Pal AB2000 toe cap stands up to abrasions and impact, whilst suede and nubuck increases durability. A sublimate gradient mesh insert sits centrally on the toe vamp and continues along either top edge of the foot and around the back of the ankle. A 3D ‘DC’ logo emblem has been added below the laces panel, which includes integrated lace loops, custom reflective woven tape lace loops and custom ‘Butter Goods’ logo tongue webbing tape. Breathable mesh covers the top of the tongue for comfort, whilst internal elasticated tongue straps support foot stability.
Further branding can be seen around the back of the foot, with embroidered ‘DC’ logos in red and reflective ‘Butter Goods’ text printed against navy nubuck which wraps around the heel. A woven pull tab supports ease of installation and throughout the inside a mesh lining has been added for comfort, in addition to a high density foam padded collar and tongue. For skate-focused support, a white lightweight polyurethane midsole sits underfoot with a high abrasion sticky gum rubber outsole that features a custom patterned tread that supports grip across a variety of terrains.
Designed in collaboration with Perth based skate brand Butter Goods, this revamped edition of DC’s must-loved Kalis footwear model is reminiscent of classic styles from early DC catalogues and harnesses the era when Butter Goods founders Matt Evans and Garth Mariano grew up and first realised their passion for skateboarding. Elements from various old models have been borrowed and translated into one for a custom effect, including gradient mesh, reflective accents and woven tape lace loops.
