Inspired by late ‘90s tennis court shoes, the adidas Liberty Cup shoes have a brand new design that incorporates the traditional features of the original shoes with modern skate-focused features. The low-cut silhouette offers streamlined comfort with a padded tongue and stylised uppers constructed from core black breathable mesh and a matching smooth suede. The mesh is revealed on either side panel through curved shaping which widens on the inside section and continues around the back of the heel, whilst gold foil branding presents the adidas text and trefoil logo on the outside of the foot. In addition to the use of mesh, around the front of the toes and along the tongue perforation has been added for ventilation and throughout the inside a fine mesh lining enhances comfort further. Flat black cotton laces offer a secure fit and loop through a TPU lacebar, whilst a reworked ‘La Marque Aux - With The 3 Stripes’ label sits above on the centre top of the tongue.
With a focus on style and support, a removable and moulded Adiprene footbed works alongside the thick but lightweight white midsole built with a TPU layer and an overlaid ollie area. Adituff reinforcements have been added at key stress points alongside a sticky gum rubber outsole with an updated tread pattern surrounding a circular pivot point.
With obvious tennis shoe references, the adidas Liberty Cup has been crafted to combine authenticity with function through a skate-focused design that offers support in all the right places. Looking to both the past and future for inspiration, late ‘90s sports footwear references are integrated with forward thinking performance features to capture a new vision for skate footwear.
