As a rework of an iconic Vans footwear style, these Vans x Sci-Fi Fantasy Old Skool Pro Shoes have been designed in collaboration with legendary skateboarder Jerry Hsu and feature custom graphics and colour tones that enhance the low-cut silhouette. Constructed with Pro Lite technology, these shoes have been designed especially for skateboarding with DURACAP reinforcements and PopCush insoles. The uppers are made from green coloured canvas whilst true blue coloured suede flows around the back of the heel and across the laces border before continuing across the toe vamp. Helping to keep the foot in place and supported when active, white cotton laces flow through punched eyelets with a yellow tone top set that matches the colour of embroidery on the top of the tongue which shows Sci-Fi Fantasy’s stylised ‘X’ logo. Contrasting white top stitching highlights different sections of the design and ties in with signature curved stripes on either side of the shoe with a woven Vans flag tag below on the right outer panel. Around the back of the heel, on top of a curved suede overlay, embroidered ‘Sci-Fi Fantasy’ lettering has been split across the left and right shoe and stitched in yellow for a bold look. Throughout the inside a soft fabric lining has been added for comfort alongside PopCush insoles which help to support the foot from high impact, in addition to the durable rubber outsole which features the infamous Vans Waffle tread pattern.
After taking a step back from skateboarding since being made pro aged 16, Jerry Hsu launched his own clothing and accessories line Sci-Fi Fantasy in 2017 which presents custom graphics inspired by clean, corporate design following his upbringing by two computer engineers. Perhaps best known for inventing skate tricks as seen in parts within Emerica’s 2010 video Stay Gold and The Storm by Osiris in 1999, a photography blog launched by Hsu in 2009 demonstrates a piece of the skateboarder's creative talents and led to his first book being published last summer.
