Black, Black, White

Designed by legendary female skater Elissa Steamer, the Nike SB x Gnarhunters Blazer Mid Shoes follow a monochrome colourway with subtle patterned decoration and DIY style branding. The black uppers are made from tumbled leather with a textural suede toe piece within a supportive mid-top silhouette, secured by colour matched cotton laces over a slim nylon tongue. As a signature feature of the model, an elongated Nike Swoosh tick has been added onto either outer panel, decorated with an embossed Gnarhunters logo pattern, coloured in a dark grey tone, whilst around the back of the heel a white suede insert provides a background for stylised embroidered ‘Nike’ lettering. Around the inner border of the ankle cushioned padding supplies all-day comfort, whilst an Air unit in the heel provides support from repetitive impacts.

Standing out against the darker toned uppers, a crisp white flexible outsole has a lightly textured surface with extra attention around the toes. The brown gum tread has a herringbone pattern for grip and stability and the Gnarhunters triangular logo has been sprayed in black towards the back of the foot.

No doubt inspired by the rich, vibrant San Francisco community in which Elissa Steamer resides, this collaborative model arrives after the notable full-length ‘Gizmo’ feature by Nike SB, which pays homage to Steamer’s on-going influence within the industry, alongside a host of all-female skaters who are making their mark within the future of skateboarding. Having arrived on the scene in 1996 in ‘Toy Machine: Welcome to Hell’, Steamer was the first woman in history to go professional and the first playable female character in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game, not to mention winning the L.A X Games four times and being named Female Skater of The Year by Check It Out Girls Magazine in 2003.

Continuing parent-brand Nike’s journey to zero carbon and zero waste, Nike’s Move to Zero campaign is one that remains firmly rooted in a commitment to sustainability and environmental activism. Born from a desire to ‘protect the future of sport against climate change’, Nike SB follows in the footsteps of Nike to focus on an aim to reduce its carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 and to divert 99% of all footwear manufacturing waste away from landfills. The inventive use of Nike Grind, recycled polyester and foam scraps helps honour the brand’s loyalty to both performance and premium-grade manufacturing methods.
