adidas Skateboarding x Evisen
Getting their 2019 collaborative series started, adidas Skateboarding have teamed up with Tokyo based skate brand Evisen to drop a limited six piece capsule collection. Serving as a curated mashup of east and west culture, season essential athletic silhouettes take shape with stylised traditional Japanese imagery. The result is some contemporary skate ready apparel and footwear that looks rad. The collection offers a reworked custom colourway in the three-stripe brands 3MC model, this time housed in crisp white leather contrasted by scarlet accents. With its inaugural release in 2018, the 3MC propelled to be one of the three-stripe brands premier shoes, offering a clean, functional addition to the roster. The collection is also accompanied by a long sleeve graphic tee, a moisture-wicking woven pique soccer style jersey, nylon track pants, a heavyweight fleece-lined crewneck and a heritage inspired jacket, all of which are emblazoned with the adidas stacked trefoil logo and the Evisen crest.
Katsumi Minami founded Evisen in 2011, with help from his close friends. Combining quintessential Japanese fables with an original, expressive outlook on skateboarding, Evisen operates as a communal hub, showcasing talents of team riders through a stream of videos, with an emphasis on lifestyle. Working within their collaborative capsule with adidas skateboarding, the brands art director took a unique approach to designing a custom logo, using a sampling technique with a focus on Sake labels.
Linking up with adidas, Evisen chose to explore traditional Japanese calligraphy, art and colour schemes, which flows with continuity throughout the capsule. Mixing eastern and western heritage, folklore inspired design elements often serve as a backdrop for printed graphics, accompanied by embroidered 3-Stripes for a streetwear ready finish. As the brands co-created garments using adidas apparel, the heritage euro sportswear brand flexed silhouettes reaching deep into their rich archive, which offer comfortable unrestricted fits for optimal ease of movement during your skate.
