adidas Skateboarding: Introducing the Coronado

adidas Skateboarding: Introducing the Coronado | Flatspot

Performance focused, flexible and refined, the adidas Coronado is a brand new footwear model to emerge from adidas’ esteemed skateboarding line and has been crafted with a focus on achieving the perfect balance between comfort and control. The Coronado is quietly confident and reflective of the brand’s ability to create goods that speak for themselves through quality and thoughtful detailing as a reflection of an undisputed reputation for design innovation that spans over 70 years.

As we all know this year should have seen history made with skateboarding introduced into the Olympics for the first time. However, whilst the event may have been postponed, there is still reason to celebrate as a selection of brand new footwear styles have been introduced by adidas skateboarding in anticipation of the big event. Arriving alongside heritage influenced designs that pay homage to the 50th anniversary of the Superstar, the new decade has been set off with a bang with the first entirely new model of the year, the Matchbreak Super, which found itself in the spotlight following its release in January and has been labelled as the highest-quality vulcanised footwear style that the iconic sportswear label has ever produced. Following this and created by looking inward at the brands own achievements, an impressive rework of an archival model resulted in the Copa Nationale which was introduced in April and chosen by Mike Arnold as his chosen silhouette for the latest instalment of the adidas Rider Series.

Marking the start of summer, the low-profile silhouette of the all-new Coronado makes it a go-to option for wearing on and off a skateboard and like any adidas footwear style, it can be worn for a variety of occasions and will bring a certain finesse that few trainers can. The debut adidas Coronado Shoesin a triple white colourway boasts a freshness like no other with super clean leather uppers which continue across the tongue and toe box in addition to an all-white lace fastening. As an essential emblem of any adidas design, the typical three-stripe decoration which is usually applied in some form of textile has been replaced with perforated holes which not only adds further character, it also encourages ventilation to help keep you cool and comfortable during all-day wear and more can be found across the tongue. Set within the front of the shoe, an abrasion-resistant Adituff toe strengthens a key stress point and ensures ample coverage from any knocks when on the move whilst curved top stitching adds a streamlined effect and adds a softness that complements the tongue. Colour matched metal eyelets hold the short lace fastening in place and a subtle Trefoil emblem has been embossed into the top section of the tongue to add refined yet distinctive branding. Smooth leather continues around the padded ankle collar and back of the heel where a slightly darker tone suede tab adds texture to the design and is secured by a topstitching that continues below and underneath the rubber outsole.

Selected especially for its flexible qualities and ability to withstand repetitive abrasions, the white HexFlex outsole is enhanced by a vulcanized wrap and has been widened slightly towards the heel with an additional textured panel that wraps around the front of the foot. Standing out against the rest of the design, a rectangular rubber label has been placed around the back of the outsole and shows ‘adidas’ lettering in black alongside a small Trefoil logo both set within a slim border. Supplying reliable control and flexible grip, the adidas Coronado is completed by a Geoflex tread pattern which has become an essential feature of adidas’ skate shoe line thanks to its ability to move with the foot to provide outstanding boardfeel.
