Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro

Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro | Flatspot

Continuing to celebrate independent skate stores and creative individuals within the industry, Nike SB has teamed up with California based StrangeLove Skateboards to create a unique pair of Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro Shoes which are set to be released in the lead up to Saint Valentine’s Day. Designed by two legendary illustrators known for their impact upon skateboarding through highly detailed, stylised drawings across skate decks in the late ‘80s and beyond, Sean Cliver and Todd Bratruf have joined forces to reimagine the Dunk Low Pro with a distinctly loved up design that uses crushed velvet and suede for the construction.

Naming skateboarding as his first love, Cliver has used this idea for direction inspiration to create this Valentine’s themed shoe which includes custom illustrations, tones of gym red against bright melon and heart shaped confetti across the outsole. The toe vamp, topside of the tongue and side panel inserts have been cut from medium soft pink coloured velvet with a bright melon suede border that holds gym red laces in place before wrapping around the back of the heel. Matching the laces, Swoosh tick emblems sit on either side of the foot with tips that continue to the edge of the ankle collar where white ‘Nike’ lettering has been embroidered onto a curved overlay section. On the outer side of the heel a red, blue and white embroidered emblem references signature colours of the Strangelove store and shows a skull with protruding veins extending out of the top. The ankle collar is highly padded for comfort, as is the tongue which has a woven ‘Nike SB Strangelove’ label positioned below the piped gym red velvet top edge which continues throughout the inside where custom ‘Soul Mate’ illustrations have been printed across either sockliner. Drawn in the style of vintage tattoos, the left sockliner features intertwined skeletons holding a bow surrounded by a red ribbon that has the ‘Strangelove’ skate store logo printed centrally and fallen feathers below. The design continues across the right sockliner with an illustrated blue skateboard hit by an arrow with stylised ‘Soul Mate’ lettering across a red ribbon that wraps around the deck. Not stopping there, the flexible white rubber cupsole connects to a translucent light pink tread that reveals metallic red and blue heart shaped confetti at the heel and forefoot around a circular pivot point. Allowing you to customise your look, gym red, white and tri-coloured laces arrive with each pair each with aglets branded with the Strangelove logo.

Having previously worked for Powell Peralta from the late 1980’s, Sean Oliver set up Strangelove Skateboards to express his passion for illustration and creativity within the skateboarding industry and to celebrate talented individuals. Not only focused on artwork, Strangelove also specialises in application through multiple layers of screen prints as opposed to lesser quality heat printed decks, demonstrated through finish, richness of colour and overall quality. Working alongside Todd Bratrud of Send Help skateboards, this collaboration pairs perfectly with Nike SB’s ongoing support of independent skate stores and love for creativity, appropriately arriving ahead of Valentine’s Day.
