Seeing out the end of the summer, the Flatspot team lads rounded up into the van with the neighbouring county of Cornwall in sight. Setting off Thursday evening, van life was in full force, sing-alongs, allocated seats, stories and stubby French beers were flowing. Drawing the short straw, Steve started the trip in the boot, but with reshuffles and good buds aboard, was promoted to a back seat spot, though undoubtedly this played a part in the first night chundering.

Heading into Cornwall, after a mandatory beer pickup, the first spot was the old favourite, Mount Hawke. With a sick layout combining tranny and street, the boys shredded, setting the vibe for the trip. As the session finished up, everyone piled back into the van and it was on to Newquay for more beers and a camp setup. Agreeing on a rad spot overlooking Fistral, cozy sleeping spots were picked and the first of the van tailgate parties commenced.

As the sun rose on Friday morning, the crew woke with a swim in the ocean, working off the cobwebs and getting in their morning wash before heading to the local greasy spoon for some much needed nutrition. During the routine supermarket stop off, the local old boy showed his support with some heartfelt renditions of the sturdy Elvis Presley discography, keeping things real. Skating Newquay’s Concrete Waves park, Matt gained Friday MVP status with a savage frontside air on some hefty tranny, backed up with some solid skating from the rest of the boys. Post session, the team headed down to the local watering hole, meeting some of Cornwall’s finest characters, with life stories in abundance. To end Friday on a mellow one, it was back to the van for food, stargazing, beers and antics.

Saturday morning started with a tidy fry up for breakfast, ensuring everyone got their five a day, before heading deeper into Kernow to find Hayle’s infamous ledge spot, which proved a tough ask in the worsening weather, without mentioning how crusty the spot is.

Picking the morale back up, the team piled into the van for beers and moved on to Penzance skatepark, seeing out the daylight shredding the park. Saturday night was party night, consisting of Mexican food, hot sauces, Coronas, toilet queuing, dancing and dog naming.

Heads were groggy going into the final day. The final push saw the lads head to Truro plaza, with Harry signing off the trip with a sick tre flip, despite his ankle giving him jip. Late afternoon it was time to get back in the van for one last drive and head back to home turf. Despite the beer haze, sleep deprivation and aches, the vibe remained killer, soundtracked by some questionable classic R&B playlists. Getting back into Devon, Harry stopped the van to forage some blackberries as one last treat.
