Severn adds a well-needed splash or originality to the independent skatewear scene, having been founded by three friends - James Griffiths, Tom Mangham and Luke Frisby- who keep a close-knit community at the heart of their brand. The name originates from the links that all three founders have along the Severn river, whether its growing up in Worcestershire or establishing the company in Bristol.
Griffiths works as a full-time photographer alongside operating the brand (all of them have their own jobs and see Severn as a hobby) and has therefore been able to draw inspiration from countless influences including; architecture, shapes, form and photography itself. This is highlighted most in the graphic aspects of their designs, including their geometric logo. Their design process is a meticulous one, the aspect of the
brand handled by Mangham, which ensures that the highest quality of production is maintained on a limited number of products in order to preserve the standard of the goods - it’s as a result of this that the brand has not expanded into other markets.
Their skate team comprises of friend’s, namely the likes of Manny Lopez, Charlie Munro, Conor Charleson, Dan West, Ben Rowley and Jimmy Silver. This is something that really reflects in the fluidity of the designs of the brand as well as the edits they produce, everybody knows everybody and that’s something that’s increasingly rare in the culture today.
