Canal New York

Canal New York

Following on from the success of their first full-length documentary, released in August 2018, featuring full parts from Marcello Campanello and Caleb Yuan and backed by a mix of R&B and well known British new wave hits, Canal New York have provided a fresh range of accompanying apparel and accessories for SS19 which celebrate ‘Mode’ and their take on the ever-changing culture of current times. Known for their minimalistic graphic style, a key piece within the range is the Mode T-Shirt which perfectly captures the brand’s identity, alongside the OG Logo Bucket Hat that runs in tune with new season trends which are heavily influenced by nostalgic ‘90s culture.

Inspired by New York City, fashion, art and the counterfeit culture found on Canal Street, longtime friends Esteban Jefferson, Johnny Ngan, Marcello Campanello and Cyril Palmer have been skating together long before launching Canal New York in 2014. Describing themselves as an apparel, accessories and skateboard

wheel company, they accurately represent what it is to be a NYC skater in modern day; through documentaries that mix fast paced shots with random everyday happenings, accompanied by stylish product releases.

First capturing international attention from the packaging of their skateboard wheels, presented within a perfume-box style case and adorned with branding similar to a high fashion brand, it’s clear that the Canal New York team have set out to be authentic to themselves in what they produce and how they portray themselves, whilst bringing attention to their large skate team of friends. Their untypical skate video styling regularly includes contemporary and old R&B tracks and although their main inspiration links to luxury knock-offs, an aim to provide quality clothing that promotes considered design is apparent through hidden meanings, quotes and phrases within details that can be recognised by the diverse crowd who follow the Canal NY team.
