Get on this: Stripes

Stripes have always been a thing especially back in the 90’s , with brands like Droors whose garments became big, thanks to their killer team that at points included Jason Dill and Kareem Campbell. Droors grew with skateboarding’s push towards technical gear, which were heavily inspired by Nautica and Polo. Over the years Stripes have been worn by skaters like Ali Boulala and Eric Koston.

Striped t-shirts are perfect for anyone's outfit rotation. Due to the variety of colour and styles, it means the striped t-shirt becomes an extremely versatile piece for spring styling that will easily transcend over to the summer season, making them a must have.

A key thing to consider when it comes to styling these renditions of striped t-shirts is to keep the rest of the outfit clean in order to prevent yourself from overpowering the stripes. The brighter coloured striped t-shirts work well when accompanied with lighter trousers or even coloured shorts. Whereas the more neutral pieces will stand out when worn alongside darker trousers. These modern updates of this menswear classic allows you to create a look no matter what the occasion or time of day it is, they can be worn at the skatepark or when you’re out and about.

To give you a taste of the stripes, Pontus Alv and the guys over at Polar present you the Striped Pocket T-Shirt in a fresh violet and mint combination. An ideal choice for adding colour to your outfit, the Polar Striped Pocket T-Shirt showcases horizontal stripes in a palette that is a cautious yet confident step towards incorporating more brighter colours into a fit. As always, Polar keep their details lowkey but the construction to a high standard. A chest pocket houses a woven label that features the classic Polar Stroke logo. By keeping the details clean, it allows the stripes to be at centre of this garment.

Next up, you get a more toned down version of the striped t-shirt; the Carhartt Sunder T-Shirt is a short sleeved option that offers a more looser fitting silhouette, making it perfect for those warmer days when you’re skating. The garment’s black base colour lets the orange and yellow yarn dyed stripes to stand out while the grey and dark navy contrast the black. Likewise to Polar, Carhartt implement a subtle touch of detailing, however this time around the workwear brand apply a tonal embroidered logo to the chest instead of a woven label. The Carhartt Sunder T-Shirt looks at its best when partnered with a set of dark olive coloured trousers or equally as simple, a pair of black track pants.

HUF introduces you to their more classic looking iteration, the Ace Stripe T-Shirt. Offering a monochromatic set of stripes that are considerably thicker compared to the other two examples. Once again, HUF follow the rules by keeping the details clean, like Carhartt, HUF go for tonal embroidery at the chest but also include a flag label at the side seam. However, HUF incorporate a jacquard knit collar with a diamond design that gives an additional point of detail. Cop the HUF Ace Striped T-Shirt if you’re after a more classic look and style it with a pair of black jeans to continue to the tonal aesthetic.
